What happens at Big Lots when you pursue a shoplifter who has assaulted one of your employees and then report the shoplifting assaulter to the police?
You get fired, that's what happens. At least in New York.
Yes, Pat Guider lets shoplifters exit his store all the time. It's the store's policy; they simply document the shoplifting and move on. But this time was different. Guider witnessed a shoplifter take a swing at one of his employees, so he called the police and followed the shoplifter at a distance once he left the store.
And apparently this was too much for Big Lots, because they fired him for it.
Pat Guider, a manager at a Big Lots store in New York, was terminated after over 20 years of service for pursuing a shoplifter who assaulted an employee and then informing the police about the incident.
On May 10, Guider witnessed a shoplifter swing a punch at his assistant manager while attempting to leave the store. Concerned for the safety of his team, Guider followed the assailant at a distance through the parking lot while providing updates to 911. Two weeks after the incident, Guider was summoned to his district manager's office and informed of his termination. He expressed frustration over the decision, maintaining that he acted correctly in response to a violent situation.
Although Big Lots has not commented specifically on Guider's case, the company has a policy displayed in-store prohibiting employees from leaving the premises to pursue or detain customers. However, Guider defended his actions, emphasizing that he did not endanger the store or any customers who were present at the time.

Secret Service member robbed at gunpoint during Biden’s weekend California trip
The public wants to help. But we are hamstrung, though, because media isn’t providing much detail about the humiliating incident, for obvious reasons. Mostly political. The Hill didn’t disclose the Agent’s gender, referring to him or her as “them” and “they.” Maybe it’s fair, though, since these days you can’t just assume a Secret Service Agent’s gender regardless of which equipment was installed at birth.

Mob ravages California mini-mart during flash robbery near airport, shocking video shows
The gas station's owner said several hours passed before police responded to the crime
Dozens of people ransacked a gas station mini-mart near the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport in Oakland, California, early Friday morning, leaving the store destroyed.
Shocking surveillance video shows suspects in a flash mob tearing apart the store as they rifled through the refrigerated section and shelves, smashed items and filled shopping baskets full of loot.
Sam Mardaie, the owner of the 76 Gas Station & Mini Market on Hegenberger Road, told FOX 2 the thieves caused an estimated $100,000 in damage at the store and that they threatened two employees working at the time.
Imagine what would happen if the US Grid went down. Even if it was limited to a coast or a region of the coast, it would look like this in the cities.
Dozens of people were shot during yet another bloodbath Fourth of July weekend in Democrat-controlled Chicago.
Shootings and other violence across the country during the extended Fourth of July weekend have left at least 33 people dead and injured dozens, authorities said.
11 people were killed in Chicago alone, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Another 55 people were wounded in shootings in Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago.

"It's very unfortunate," he added. "You and I pay for it. The consumer pays for it on the backend because prices increase because the merchandise is going out the door and no one is stopping the bad guys because of the threat of violence."
Cortez said if one company is using guards to protect drivers, others are likely considering it to keep their drivers and products from being targeted.

The Washington Times ran a reverse-fact-check story yesterday headlined, “Data backs up Trump on crime increase, violence up under Biden-Harris administration.” So much for ABC’s debating fact-checkers.
On Tuesday night, after President Trump noted that violent crime is way up under Biden’s open-border “policy,” ABC moderator qua co-debater David Muir, fact-checked President Trump citing FBI data, and claimed that violent crime “is coming down in this country.”
ABC was wrong. It wasn’t just something the Washington Times came up with. The DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Statistics runs an annual National Crime Victimization Survey, which contacts about a quarter-million people in 150,000 households.
The BJS Survey’s conclusions, taken directly from citizen reports, flatly contradicted the FBI’s carefully collated crime data.
One disappointing trend disclosed by the study explained the deep disparity between the two agencies’ data: People seem to be giving up on reporting crimes at all. Only 44% of self-reported robbery victims said they filed a police report last year, down substantially from 64% in 2022. In 2020, 97% of police departments reported local crime data to the FBI. But by 2022, 31% weren’t reporting data at all, and another 24% were reporting incomplete data.
In other words, under Trump, nearly all local police departments reported their crime data to the FBI. Now, just three years later, over half of police departments don’t even bother.
A crime expert cited for the story concluded violent crime has increased overall by +37% under the Biden Administration, compared to a drop of -17% under the Trump Administration. Aggravated assaults fell by -24% under Trump, but accelerated +55% under Biden. Robbery reduced -6% under Trump, but rose +63% under Biden. Rape ran flat under Trump, but rose +42% under Biden.
In light of the news, Trump took a well-deserved victory lap yesterday on Truth Social:
@realDonaldTrump
MASSIVE NEWS! The Department of Justice
just released brand new Crime Data
showing was absolutely and completely
right at the Debate. In fact, the Data is even
worse than we could have ever imagined.
Compared to 2020, Violent Crime is up
nearly 40 percent, Rape is up 42 percent,
Aggravated Assaults are up 55 percent,
Violent Crime with a weapon is up 56
percent, Violent Attacks on strangers are up
61 percent, Car Theft is up 42 percent, and
the most serious forms of Violent Crime are
up 55 percent. Our Cities are UNDER SIEGE.
And this does not include the Migrant Crime
and Migrant Rape spree that has overtaken
our Cities in recent months. Kamala Crime
is destroying America, and gangs are taking
over!
Don’t hold your breath waiting for corporate media to fact-check ABC’s debate fact-checking.
The FBI just "stealth-edited" their violent crime stats for 2022. Will ABC apologize for their bogus "fact check" of Trump?
Y'all ain't gonna believe this, but the FBI was being deceptive again.
(I know, shocker.)
The FBI released their violent crime statistics, which were already pretty bogus because of major Democrat cities not reporting, and then they quietly revised the numbers once the media had spent months convincing Americans that crime was actually down.
If you remember, ABC News host David Muir used the original report as a sledgehammer during the Trump-Kamala debate.
Once again, the FBI, the White House, and the media lied to us.
And Trump was right.
When the FBI originally released the 'final' crime data for 2022 in September 2023, it reported that the nation's violent crime rate fell by 2.1%. This quickly became, and remains, a Democratic Party talking point to counter Donald Trump's claims of soaring crime.
But the FBI has quietly revised those numbers, releasing new data that shows violent crime increased in 2022 by 4.5%. The new data includes thousands more murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults.
The Bureau - which has been at the center of partisan storms - made no mention of these revisions in its September 2024 press release.
Not only did the FBI miss on their stats by more than 6.5 pts, they didn't even officially and publicly correct the record.
Could it be that they are trying to keep the fact that crime is up under Biden-Harris on the down low?
(The government keeps revising job numbers in the same way.)
RCI discovered the change through a cryptic reference on the FBI website that states: 'The 2022 violent crime rate has been updated for inclusion in CIUS, 2023.' But there is no mention that the numbers increased. One only sees the change by downloading the FBI's new crime data and comparing it to the file released last year.
Could the FBI be any worse?
'I have checked the data on total violent crime from 2004 to 2022,' Carl Moody, a professor at the College of William & Mary who specializes in studying crime, told RealClearInvestigations. 'There were no revisions from 2004 to 2015, and from 2016 to 2020, there were small changes of less than one percentage point. The huge changes in 2021 and 2022, especially without an explanation, make it difficult to trust the FBI data.'
'It is up to the FBI to explain what they have done, and they haven't explained these large changes,' Dr. Thomas Marvell, the president of Justec Research, a criminal justice statistical research organization, told RCI.
Remember, each of these numbers represents a human victim.
Unless the FBI can prove why there was a good excuse for this revision, the only real conclusion is that they lied about people being raped and murdered to protect their bosses.
The actual changes in crimes are extensive. The updated data for 2022 report that there were 80,029 more violent crimes than in 2021. There were an additional 1,699 murders, 7,780 rapes, 33,459 robberies, and 37,091 aggravated assaults.
Anyone need more proof that the FBI needs to be completely dismantled?
