I think some folks here on patnet are from Florida.

So we've been visiting Florida for a week now. Will be here 3 more days. What are nice red areas out here anyone would recommend to see, preferably near cities. I've already learned that Tampa is very blue in many parts, like CA light. Clearwater seems nice and clean, way too urban for our liking though. St. Peterburg is like SF (gay mecca). How is Jacksonville, anyone here know, planning to go there next.

Nassau, St John's, and maybe Polk counties.

Yes, I've been doing my homework.

Clearwater is filled with Scientologists.

Go to Bahia Honda and fuck wives on beach.

I have a recommendation but I just read you’re going to Jacksonville so I guess it’s not going to work for this trip.

I don’t think that Florida is so great except for a few places. I’m a tax refugee and I like the beach and diving, etc.

Edit:
Hint: Rich athletes live in the area which I like.
Another is Vero Beach, which has been called “The Hamptons of Florida”

Too hot and humid most of the year. Similar to SE Texas which has enjoyable climate only from late October to April.

Northern Florida is cheaper than southern Florida, and has less stupid liberals. It also has way less sink holes. North East Florida has the least hurricane issues as well. Also in some rare freak occurances, you can get a basement in Northern Florida. Tampa has a pretty good job market, but is overpriced and has terrible traffic. Tallahassee is too far from the beach (the nearby coast is swamps). Jacksonville is not a good place to look for a job. I am not sure what to think about Orlando; it might not be close enough to the beach for me. Right now is a terrible time to be buying a house in Florida, but that also seems to be the case everywhere.

Also, I might just find the beaches that I like the best and then look for housing. I'm accustomed to Atlantic City beaches, and therefore might like Daytona beach the best???

At least that is a good portion of my reasoning.

A feature called the Gulf Stream makes the ocean superior on the Atlantic side.
This is warm, clear ocean current which comes in contact with the continental USA in Palm Beach.
The Stream heads offshore as you travel north.
The Gulf side doesn't have the Gulf Stream.
Since I like swimming, diving, and boating, I prefer this side to anywhere on the Gulf side.

That's where my family is from. My Grandfather sold Duval country much of the land for the Jax Zoo, and the Airport way way back in the day. That's how established my family was at one time there.
My BIL is lamenting that Jax is turning into a Liberal shithole, near the down town area. You got to get to the outskirt rural areas.
Basically all of Florida rural areas are full 100% dedicated Red Conservatives. The Commiecrats rule the downtown districts in every town that has a sizable population.
Even in South Florida when you drive out west to the Agriculture areas away from the metro area. It's full of conservatives as well.

That's why I prefer to avoid Duval county completely. Presumably they will eventually get a DA that refuses to prosecute and it will turn into a shithole as well.

How close is too close to the coast WRT hurricanes and shit? The GF owns a 1/4 acre lot (undeveloped, but along a road and with nearby utilities and stuff) near Palm Coast just west of I-95 somewhere around the 20-25 ft above seal level. I haven't measured the distance to the nearest spot on the coast, but it's definitely less than 10 miles. Probably 5-10 miles.

Having written that, we would prefer a 1/2 acre. Lot was bought in the 80's by her parents cheap.

I was born in Jacksonville, LOL, but don't know anything about it (military brat, moved on).
