I should not comment, but fuck it. I spent one summer clamming and it’s not so much fun, and it was definitely work. I busted my ass and drove the clams to the buyer in the evening. Now I’m not working but I’m not supposed to, I’m going to have fun. As a rule I don’t look at Yahoo stories anyway.
if your young, you can hustle for work, but that is a mind set that few have. If you are as dumb as a rock, then you really are a hustler... you dont have any skills, but you are street smart... their are street jobs out there. If you are elderly, we'll see you at the walmart as a greeter... or filling orders at Walmart... that's easy and the pay is not that bad for someone single. IMO the Yahoo article is junk... talking about retirement and shit that younger people don't have enough of...especially if they are going for cash. The elderly has limited skills, especially if you do not have a trade, and or have limited mobility...i.e heavy lifting, climbing ladders, etc. If I choose to be an auto mechanic in my younger days, I'm sure I can still use my skills today. I believe the corporate stigma of hiring people over 50 still exists, but desperation may have changed that... don't know, and maybe someone can comment on that. I Would like to know if that still exists. Anyway... I would hustle for cash... especially with experience in many things... like a knower of all, and a master of none.
I believe the corporate stigma of hiring people over 50 still exists,
They don't mind hiring people over 50, but they are warry of those on their 5th divorce, and look like they've been rode hard and put away wet, and are on their second nervous breakdown. People over 50 that are still sharp are a hot commodity. They can get a million idiots under 50 that are dumb as a rock, to work for half of what someone over 50 feels like they need.
And I don't trade. I pick a stock based on fundamentals or crazy good growth, and just hold it. I rarely sell anything. "The dead make the best investors."
I find that working for about 30 years, saving diligently, and putting most of it into reasonable stocks is a reliable way to get out of working, if you have the 30 years to put into it...
