Toyota is growing on me. We've had Nissan, Pontiac or Jeep out of college and recently got a Sequoia. Jeeps are pure trash. We rent them down in the Caribbean, but would never buy another one. Clunky and not intuitive control system wise. Though the boxy Cherokee's from the late 90's were simple brick shit houses.
I can't stand Ford though. We get stuck with them a lot when we travel. I don't even care about the political stuff. They're just not good cars. My MIL's neighbor was a Ford dealer and he admitted as much. My dad golfed with him as well and I knew him. I wouldn't buy a Ford. Ever.
I've been in pretty much every model of Toyota/Lexus because of my neighbor. I'm not being a sales boy, but they're good cars. My mom just picked up a RAV4 that is the plug-in hybrid model. She can go ~90 miles on battery before gas kicks in. She'll maybe have to fill the tank once a quarter. She could still tow a small trailer if needed. The Sequoia is a beast. I'm looking at a Tundra or 4-Runner in the next year or so. Probably 4-Runner as I've never been a pick up guy, but I like the towing capability of the Tundra. So it's tough.
