American Spending on Top 20 Drugs Nearly Doubles the Rest of the World Combined
BY NAVEEN ATHRAPPULLY October 2, 2021

The United States outspent every other country in the world combined when it came to the top-selling 20 pharmaceutical drugs, according to a recent analysis of company financial filings by Public Citizen.

Americans spent a total of $101.1 billion, while the rest of the world spent $56.8 billion, on the top 20 drugs. The key findings of the analysis report (pdf) indicate that U.S. consumers overpay for drugs, and do not necessarily intake more than people from other countries.

The best-selling 20 drugs brought $157.8 billion in total global revenue for pharma companies with the U.S. accounting for 64 percent of the revenue pie. The sizable disparity makes the U.S. market essentially a cash cow for Big Pharma, which is fighting efforts to decrease the spending.

“Deceptive TV ads paid for by Big Pharma try to frighten and mislead Americans about new legislative efforts that would empower Medicare to negotiate drug prices,” said the report.

That's $478 per year from every man, woman, and child in the US.

Why is the cost nearly double that of the rest of the world combined?

Because our government is corrupt, bribed by Big Pharma to make laws and rules against the public interest.

The vaxx mandate is part of this.

Gave it a 1 month test after the seizure. Nope. I have to be in dire condition before I trust a doctor to give me a damn thing. Learning to be less stressed and angry. That helps better than medicine so far.

NYE was a perfect example tonight. I was so annoyed by people. I just shut down and ignored them. I might look weird sitting by myself, but I'm at least not looking like a dip shit. Used to get angry about it. Then realized everyone is annoyed with the fucking retards. I used to call them out and cause a problem. Now I'm just like let them not control their alcohol intake and I'll laugh at it.

This is the most relaxed I've been in a while. And I hate this time of year in IL. I'd move somewhere warmer tomorrow, but the money is not as good. So just have to appreciate what I have and deal for 3-4 months a year where it's awful.

I don't know whether it's a bad thing that companies can develop drugs which sometimes are useful.

I had borderline high blood pressure; you do not want high blood pressure, for a ton of reasons, including heart attack, stroke, kidney damage, etc.

I take 10mg Lisinopril and my blood pressure is low today. It's possible I can go without it but I haven't done the experiment.

"Big Pharma" invented it and I'm happy someone did. Interestingly, it's derived from some chemical in Brazilian Pit Viper venom, pretty cool.

If the Americans wouldn't pay the fair price no drug development would take place. Sure pharma cos are greedy like all companies and some push dangerous crap or toxxines but I agree with clambo that the US is where also all the good innovation is at. It's not that simple. Other countries should pay the same as US citizens, it is actually illegal to have different pricing but we don't enforce existing laws
