For what it's worth, Turkeys for Thanksgiving is the product of strong administrations that saw how to fix an industry crisis, by stitching into an American Holiday the stop gap of an industry. If not for Thanksgiving day and the Turkey tradition. Turkeys would be super expensive to produce, and your Turkey club sandwich at the deli would up there with expensive Italian hams, and cured beef products. Turkey sandwich meat would be near $20 lb without inflation.
Administrations that can't pull of a prosperous affordable Thanksgiving is a weak administration and it's one indicator of their failed leadership.
All hail competent administrations with claws DEEP into all levels of the turkey vertical in order to take decisive control of year over year outcomes!
Damn turkeys have become road royalty around where I live. They just stroll onto the roads and know now the cars will stop. They look pretty lean, I don't know if they would make good eating.
Canada geese should also be legal to eat. They are a plague in many places.
Devil birds. DNR “confiscated” (stole) a guys truck near me 20-25 years ago because he ran over geese. They’re fucking flying rats. I’ve never understood why they’re so protected here in IL. As a golfer they are pure shit birds, literally.
You can hunt them here, but it’s a pain. You could just go to a golf course or pond and shoot them no problem. Gotta get a license and all that bullshit and it’s a really short time frame for that hunting season, or so I’ve been told. I don’t believe the balance of nature changes much if we killed all the Canadian geese.
Plenty of turkeys, just not enough labor to process and truck them.
