Because this puts the impetus to how the Blue States handle the crisis squarely on them.
They can no longer hide behind the circle jerk of finger pointing from Federal to State guidelines.
The Blue States now are forced to resign that there will not be a Federal effort to make DeSantis and other Red States follow their suit, so they don't look retarded for doing it.

I've stopped paying attention as I just don't care anymore and I cannot be required to take a vaccine (self employed, non-government work). But I don't think the entire state of IL has a mandate outside of government workers. I don't think we've gotten that batshit crazy to force it on private sector.

You're also gonna have a hard time influencing people to get vaccinated when half their vaccinated friends here in IL have covid and are sick. Thanksgiving blew up the in your face anecdotal evidence that 1 covid is BS and 2 vaccines don't work. Super interested in the next two weeks and how vast this outbreak is going to be. Have a feeling I'll pee my pants laughing. I think we're on the downslope of this drama in a good way of convincing people this is nothing.

And remember, the numbers are not accurate this time of year. People just think they have a cold bug. Don't get tested. Or don't want to get tested as was our case for work/financial reasons. When a league like the NHL has to shut down for a week, with totally vaccinated players and no one severely ill, no one keeps taking this seriously. Or they shouldn't.

The amount of break through cases here is staggering in IL. People that got vaccinated are feeling stupid. Just had a teacher friend stop by for some drinks last night. We don't talk politics so I don't know how she leans. She has vaccine remorse. So does my own wife. Dems pushing getting vaccinated are not on solid ground here in IL. Might be different in CA. Not predicting IL will turn red, but people are not happy about being lied to.

And at some point even the dumbest of people will add up all the lies. Besides there being an actual virus, what has been truthful about Covid from day one? Literally nothing. Our "top" scientist from day one has been wrong every step of the way. All of us here (mostly) have been going over this for two years. Once you have a city the size of NYC over in China have an outbreak, months before it was publicly known, the cat is out of the fucking bag with a respiratory virus that transmits easily. You cannot stop it. Scientifically and biologically it's impossible for this type of virus. We needed to figure out treatment just as we do with other viruses. You don't just vaccine this type away.

We'll see. It's why I generally don't like making predictions. I think midterms are going to be a bloodbath for those that heavily push vaccination politically at least, which could include right leaning people. My observation is patience is wearing thin on even the most freaked out about Covid. My own mother being one of them. She thought she was protected with all her jabs, but is now like what the fuck and has stopped any masking and shit like that. I've said it before, everyone will get covid at some point. Once people realize that the fear goes away.

I'm in rural IL, so it's likely much different there in CA or even Chicago (I'm assuming you're a CA guy). I'm just witnessing a shit ton of Covid fatigue and vaccine fatigue in my parts. I don't think most people understand the situation. I literally don't wear a mask in airports besides check points like TSA or gate agents. Most people are scared of getting in trouble or something. We need more people giving zero fucks.

There's not a plastic shield in any establishment and no one wears masks where I'm at. It's maybe 1%. Funny thing is we're not dead yet.

It's a mind fuck, that's for sure. My mom is about the only person I know that is genuinely scared of Covid and she's shifting to what that fuck am I doing.

I do think we're in the final push of Covid fear. I've been wrong in the past though. Having gotten Covid and knowing vaccinated people that got Covid 2 times, I think people are realizing this is a seasonal flu.

And yes, push back is good. But only if those around you know you're pushing back. It's comical, no one notices I'm not wearing a mask in places I "should" be. Maybe because I'm linebacker sized, but I don't think that is it. I have not encountered a Karen in 2 years and I haven't complied since the beginning for the most part, air travel the main exception the first 6 months.

If you go ~50m away from the Bay Area, very few wear the masks. I think Covid as we know is gone except for who are on the receiving end. I hear lots co. are expecting back to office partially from Jan 2022.

If it's passed onto the states, like Trump did, it will only be democrat governors that fuck over their population, not republican ones.

DeSantis (and I don't trust him) has become a rising star ONLY because he's told the Federal government to go fuck themselves. Same with Greg Abbott of Texas. People are getting fed up with the Federal government and it's controlled by the DNC right now. If the Federal government leaves it up to the states to impose this stupidity, all the republican states have to do is not do anything - no mandates, no forced vaccinations, none of that bullshit - but the DNC will.

300,000 died (supposedly) last year and there was wailing and gnashing of teeth. Now that vaccines are out, the number has gone up by 60%. It would be interesting to break that out by state, and who runs that state.. I'm not going to do it though.
