I started watching a documentary on the history of Al Qaeda. Goes all the way back to English control of the region and their founding of Saudi Arabia. Explain the Opium production variances when we were in the country vs when we weren't. Just one example, but the point is to have someone, anyone in power who is sympathetic to US government interests. Doesn't matter how radical they are. We've installed puppets or funded radicals in almost every Middle Eastern country at some point.
