I applaud him for his service, but the gap between the tactical and the geopolitical level is too great to close through on-the-job training. Nor does his service as a television commentator does not qualify an individual to serve as secretary of Defense.

We've had a former Pentagon Budget guy as SecDef, David Norquist. His only military experience was as a GS civilian employee in the budget area - but he's related to GROVER Norquist, lobbyist extraordinaire. Ash Carter also had no military experience outside of civilian/government managment. I think Hegseth is our first Sec Def with actual COMBAT experience in many, many years. A quick search shows most of the persons on the "Eisenhower" site have no direct combat experience and were mostly officer-administrators.

So I saw "Aaron Bushnell" in the sidebar. The name not ringing any bells with me, I thought "Oh, this must be some officer they admire. I can tell WHO they are by WHO they admire. Probably some retired General.
