AAA Lists Most Expensive States for Gas: 9 of Top 10 Are Run by Democrats
David Hawkins March 8, 2022

According to AAA here are the most expensive states for gas as of Monday:

The American Automobile Association (AAA) has listed the top-ten most expensive states to buy gas, nine of which are run by Democrats.

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gas is $4.06 and rising.

The average is now 45 cents more than a week ago, 62 cents more than a month ago, and $1.30 more than a year ago.

And it promises to get worse as the West debates banning Russian oil.

AAA has released a list of the ten states with the most expensive gas prices and most are blue states.

The only red state in the top ten is Alaska, which surprisingly comes in at number 6.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said:

“There are few words to describe the unprecedented rise in gasoline prices over the last week, with massive spikes coast to coast in both gasoline and diesel prices, as oil prices jump to their highest since 2008. ...

California: $5.34
Hawaii: $4.69
Nevada: $4.59
Oregon: $4.51
Washington: $4.44
Alaska: $4.39
Illinois: $4.30
Connecticut: $4.28
New York: $4.26
Pennsylvania: $4.23

Regarding my PG&E and EV scenario, your billing scheme would at best be a wash for me. More likely, because I am a stupid sh*t, I would not save money on it. I don't need to boast in our Flyover Friends' faces who follow these threa...

You think it’s in-your-face smug while I feel I offer a different perspective about life. Everyone can have the life they deserve/want if they’re willing to work for it. This is America. She offers opportunities for ALL. Maybe you’ve been a W2 employee your whole life so you share the perspective?

I chat with people from different walks of life on BiggerPockets. They don’t see the smugness in what I share and say. Everyone wants financial freedom to do whatever they want and provide the life for their beloved ones. Only the jealous ones see it as in-your-face smugness.

You say charging EV at home is a wash. I shared data that’s it’s not. Anyways, no reason to carry on if you’re not willing to share your data to back up your claim.

Cheers!

Ha ha ha! Let me know where I can purchase electricity at 9¢ kWh. How much are states subsidizing electric car charging (which seems to me to be a luxury compared to keeping the lights on or cooking food).

Its about 11 cents per kW-hour in Northwest Florida or Florida panhandle (aka: LA as in Lower Alabama) for electricity, boy.

I read it averages about 25 cents per kW-hour in Los Angeles, and I wonder if that is going to be problematic if climate trends lead to more air condition usage in Los Angeles.

About 35% to 65% of my home's electricity bill is for air conditioning from March through November in the Florida panhandle. My family wants to keep the thermostat down to 70 degrees Fahrenheit so the humidity averages about 50% during the summer.

https://www.fpl.com/content/dam/fplgp/us/en/northwest/pdf/rates/How%20to%20...

Gas prices in your state are lower compared to us so your savings is different than ours. 11 cents/kWh vs. $4.50/gallon in gas vs. ours 25 cents/kWh vs. $6.50/gallon in gas?

All in all, the experience has been great for us. We don’t see us going back to an ICE car anytime soon.

Driving EV’s offer another perspective about electricity usage and degradation. Once we’re ready to install solar, we’ll go overboard on the design to account for seasonality and degradation of the solar overtime. Maybe 125-140% of the actual usage capacity? Have 1-2 powerwall will likely help to maximize the savings and seasonality.

Electricity prices will likely continue to go up while we’ll fix our cost with solar. This is the last year for maximum rebates and credits in CA. Something for us to think about.

Your assumption seems a little high. I get 285-290 Wh/mile on average with my Model S. It’s a bigger and heavier car. I would think the Model 3 would get better mileage than mine.

Not trying to be a dick but who cares? EV's are decades from being prominent. I drive a $65K Nissan Armada ($35k used). It's still cheaper and provides more utility for what I need and get to top off in 5 minutes if I need more range. Can tow 9k. EV's are a fad. They work for a tiny segment of the population. Which is totally fine. Time is money though, it's not about electric cost. It would cost the wife and I $100 of combined time to charge an EV on the road for 30 minutes. I'd come out to $10/gallon compared to ICE with my time.

It's a feel good thing and fun drive thing which I admit. It's not practical though. It's math. On the back end you have more money pouring out of your wallet with a full EV like a Tesla. And I like them. So as I said not trying to be a dick. EV's are not the future. Hybrids are. Even Tesla's infrastructure doesn't compete remotely with gas stations and they put chargers in. I don't have the time for 10-20 minutes of charging to get me 100 miles. I can get 400 on gas, talk on the phone with clients/people and get to my destination 80-90% faster.

Yes indeed, it's not for you. I don't question you at all. What is the point of lying on Patrick's page? So there is no flaw in my comment about me, just as there's no flaw in your comment about you.

I studied this to death when I got the plug-in vehicle. It won't pencil out for me.

Call me a liar, go ahead homie. Sticks and stones.

I will not boast and get in the face of others how the cost of living here is Chump Change. Maybe it is Chump Change, maybe that's why I stay here. But I don't boast about it.

The obnoxious braggadocio of some folks (who mostly moved here from somewhere else) is actually the worst part of sticking around. It's not the High Cost Of Living. Not the traffic. Not the pollution. Not the crazy Leftoids: it's the obnoxious Bay Area Cool And Hip Smugsters and snobs.

Yeah, yeah, I know: In your face, you stupid lazy podunk local kid.

Before you hitch an Airstream to your electric truck and set out to circumnavigate the country, you need to understand this: With the largest available battery pack, a fully charged 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck has less energy onboard than a regular F-150 with four gallons of gas in its tank.

Total worldwide rig count is about 20% below February 2020 levels.

I wonder if rig count will intentionally remain below February 2020 levels for another couple of years to keep prices elevated above $3 a gallon for gasoline. Work from home and electric vehicles have had an affect on gasoline demand.

Gasoline is now about $3.65 a gallon here in the Florida panhandle.

IL has dropped the MFT (motor fuel tax) until the end of the year. I don't know the exact amount, but at current prices that's about 30-40¢ less I believe. So per gallon prices are down, but the state isn't collecting the tax that was meant to keep our roads and bridges in good shape. I don't pay for gas, so I don't really pay attention outside of posts like this or news.

Fact is we all know who this helps the most. Big companies shipping shit in and out of IL. Likely paying little corporate taxes. Helps the poor and middle class I suppose, but that's not why they dumped it. Limousine liberal JB Prickzer was getting heat from the big corps. When the roads start going to shit it's going to be Jimmy Doe with a flat tire, broken axel, etc. Given trucks destroy the roads the most, he's given a tax break to big corps on the backs of the citizens. You can explain this to people, but they're just happy to pay less in gas. People are idiots as to what is going on.

It's not like they were really using all (or any) of it for THAT purpose....

I remember SF mayor saying in 2006(?) that "we don't plan any road repairs in the city for this year because we have lots of resident with special needs and these needs will havre to be met first".
351   clambo   2022 Aug 21, 7:56am

August 20 Palm Beach County $3.44.

I recall it was $2.24 in December 2020.

This is the last month of Biden's order to tap the strategic oil reserves which are down to 1984 levels.

Oil rig count is still about 15% below early 2020 levels. I don't see gas prices staying low unless the economy takes a major dive after the midterm election.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/03/opec-oil-prices-could-soon-return-to-100-a-barrel-analysts-say.htm

But then you have this forecast which keep oil demand down.

It’s getting to the point where the JouleUnlimited biological crude/diesel from algae becomes economically viable, I would think. If CA fuel holds above $6/gal line it seems to be now, this has got to be potentially a solution. I wonder why the venture with Audi out in the New Mexico desert pilot project shut down…..

This fuel should meet the CA RFS and CARBOB requirements based on the information they have divulged.

Yeah, just like biogas as I have worked in the biodigester industry for poultry farms.

Brazil understand this enough several years ago :

" Brazil today is home to the world's largest fleet of cars that use ethanol derived from sugarcane as an alternative fuel to fossil fuel based petroleum. Twenty-seven million cars, 73% of the total, can use a mix of ethanol and gasoline. Dec 2, 2018 "

Europe should look into more biogas production from waste like poultry and swine waste as part of elevating energy prices.

Right, but all car manufacturers are rapidly abandoning their passenger car diesel lines and going full retard ... err... full EV instead. The fuel may be viable but only semis and brodozers will be left to take advantage.

Several decades ago actually. They started government program to foist ethanol fuel on everybody as a response to the 70s oil crisis.

No no no no no no.

OK, the BEST algae that exists (that we know of) is about 1% efficient at converting solar energy into stored energy. It's a TERRIBLE energy source. We're far better off using solar panels (15% efficient usually) using electrolysis to produce hydrogen (50% efficient at best, but let's say 25% efficient), that makes it 4% efficient overall.

Now compare that to algae that still needs to be processed and turned into some sort of fuel.

I love the idea of basically free energy from the sun, and it IS workable, with a lot of land. Honestly, where I live, I could live with just a bunch of solar panels on a roof of a shack, and I could deal with the power outages on cloudy and rainy days. I really wouldn't need much storage, but some to run a fridge and a stove. Solar energy is workable, but it needs major changes to society. "Oh it's sunny out today! I can run the vacuum cleaner and run the dishwasher!" - that is what it would be like.

It would require a radical change in society. No streetlights, much better control of crime at night, an armed citizenry, it's doable, but a radical change in society. The only things you'd have that would run off from battery would be absolute necessities, your phone, maybe a few lights, that's it.
