Russia asks China for military assistance in its invasion of Ukraine

Russia has asked China for military equipment to support its invasion of Ukraine, sparking concern in the White House that Beijing may undermine western efforts to help Ukrainian forces defend their country.
US officials told the Financial Times that Russia had requested military equipment and other assistance since the start of the invasion. They declined to give details about what materiel Russia had requested.
Another person familiar with the situation said the US was preparing to warn allies about the situation amid some indications that China may be preparing to help Russia. Other US officials have also said there were signs that Russia was running out of some kinds of weaponry as the war in Ukraine approaches the start of its third week.
The White House did not comment. The Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for a comment.
The revelation comes as Jake Sullivan, US national security adviser, heads to Rome for talks on Monday with Yang Jiechi, China’s top foreign policy official. People familiar with the situation said Sullivan would sternly warn China that any efforts to help Russia prosecute the invasion or avoid western sanctions would have consequences.
Before leaving Washington on Sunday, Sullivan warned China not to try to “bail out” Russia by helping Moscow to circumvent the sanctions that the US and its allies have imposed on Putin and his regime.

“We will ensure that neither China, nor anyone else, can compensate Russia for these losses,” Sullivan told NBC television on Sunday. “In terms of the specific means of doing that, again, I’m not going to lay all of that out in public, but we will communicate that privately to China, as we have already done and will continue to do.”
The request for equipment and other kinds of unspecified military assistance comes as the Russian military struggles to make as much progress in Ukraine as western intelligence believe they expected.
It also raises fresh questions about the China-Russia relationship, which has grown increasingly strong as both countries express their opposition to the US over everything from Nato to sanctions.
China has portrayed itself as a neutral actor in the Ukraine crisis and has refused to condemn Russia for invading the country. The US has also seen no sign that Chinese president Xi Jinping is willing to put any pressure on Vladimir Putin, his Russian counterpart.
The two leaders signed a joint statement in Beijing last month describing the Beijing-Moscow partnership as having “no limits”, in another sign that the two capitals were drawing even closer together.

I'll say it again, it is rather ironic that China supports the legitimacy of breakaway republics.

Russian tanks were destroyed by the hundreds and there's no end in sight; Putin stupidly just threatened other countries, so more missiles will flow into the Ukraine defense force.

NATO can afford to send thousands more, and recently 17,000 missiles went to Ukraine

Putin lost now he's sending Russia down to hell with him, all based on bullshit.

More reports from un-named US sources. Can i be an un-named source too?

It's odd that after 20 years of our government and media pumping out, frankly, simplistic and easily dismissed propaganda about Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Russia, Ukraine, MULTIPLE pandemics (SARS, MERS, Avian Bird Flu, Ebola), Russian Hacking, or election system, on and on and on and on - that people still bother to try to keep up to date by reading propaganda.

We will have no idea what happened or what is currently going on for months and it really doesn't matter anyhow. Our opinion is only useful to get support for whatever the government is already going to do. The government does what it wants, and if you resist it, they just beat you now, or throw you in prison, demonize you. There's no rational discourse.

It's funny to see Russia doing so badly. If I were Finland I would ask for my land back. Russia would collapse pretty quickly if another country or two joined Ukraine.

Doesn't China need it's military for it's pending invasion of Taiwan? It would make sense for them to do it soon since it might be pretty difficult to come up with enough hand held anti aircraft and anti tank missiles for both Taiwan and Ukraine at the same time.

Russia has not revealed anything to the level of a shock and awe attack in Ukraine as of yet.
The amount of hardware reported disabled or destroyed, would be the amount of equipment I would expect a country like Iraq under Saddam Hussain to have had at his disposal.

Now either one of these two are true.

1)Putin has not put in a full effort to invade Ukraine to date.
or
2)Russia has been more relieved that the US was the world police for the last 50 years, and decided they would never need their military so they pretty much disbanded it.

But remember Historical victories, are chalked full of miscalculations and under estimation of their opponent.

Thinking a military power has shot their wad, is the most common mistake.

Why would they?

You realize that shock and awe is the very definition of state terrorism. It's designed to cow the population into turning against their own government, out of desperation.

I've long given up on trying to get people to see the criminality of how the US wages war. The US' method of war is quite simple - cut off energy and water, destroy communications, and put the population into a desperate situation. There's no attempt to do a strategic and quick win, it's ALWAYS to draw out the conflict for as long as possible.

It appears that main objective is to exhaust the country in endless conflict for years, unless they will accept peace at any cost.

The US government says that Putin asked China for some equipment.

1. It is true, and shows the problems Russia is having in Ukraine.
OR
2. It’s psyops bullshit by the US intended to influence someone in some way.

Either way I think it’s fascinating.

And this is exactly what Putler was banking on when issuing his call to the Ukrainian military: "Take power into your own hands, it will be easier for us to reach agreement."

Instead, as we know, Russki soldiers were greeted as liberators a.k.a BBQ'd in droves.

Name calling is just displaying the lack of seriousness. I do at times, but it gets grating.

You have no fucking idea what the reasoning is. I don't either.

When the United States mows down a state like Libya, or Syria, or Iraq, or whatever - there's no sanctions as a result, absolutely no consequences. I suspect if Russia did the same they would have a problem or more of a problem.

Probably it doesn't matter really. It is Russia's neighbor though, and it's not like they're just some 3rd world country on the other side of the planet.

I don't even really know if sanctions really effect Russia honestly. They are token measures, they never hurt the wealthy.

Sure, just as well as we knew Hussein had a weapons of mass destruction program but we couldn't wait for the final proof to come in the form of a mushroom cloud. We just get a stream of lies from our establishment. They have zero credibility.

My point was not that Russia should or asking why haven't they. I'm pointing out, that Russia has not put forth an effort at this point, that I could agree when it's reported that they shot their wad. So now they need to beg China for more weapons.

I frankly don't understand the geopolitical shit with this. You're attacking a mostly land locked country as a "super power" country. You line up 40 miles of tanks on a road. Retardation is the first thought that comes to my mind. I don't care the motives, there are enough video games out there that would teach you better strategy. Having nukes isn't a strategy for a ground war you are starting. I get the end game, but the military strategy is something I'd expect from Kenya or something.
14   Tenpoundbass   2022 Mar 14, 10:48am

Yeah if you want to believe that 40 miles of Russian tanks were wiped out, but there's no epic footage of the most awesome bombardment in Human History on video. That happened in a country with 22 million smart phones, and 100% coverage, and I would imagine those attacks would have been carried out with lidar footage. Which if existed would be playing on every cable news channel 24/7 for a week. Not to mention, there's a 40 mile track of tanks and implements of destruction especially made for dealing with enemy war machines, and the Ukraine and or their Allies didn't lose a single Blackhawk, Mig, or F-22 Hornet?

Perrhaps that's why Obiden, doesn't want to commit to helping Ukraine, it looks like they've got this blindfolded with one hand tied behind OUR backs.
15   Tenpoundbass   2022 Mar 14, 10:52am

look, some poor kids in Ukraine hiding from Russia's bombs, how horrible! Putin is such a monster! NO-FLY ZONE, NOW!!!

Oh wait! That's from 2014, and those poor kids were ethnic Russians in Donbass hiding from Ukrainian bombs cause the Ukrainian President that the US installed via a coup was trying to murder them.
