#rebuildingukraine The war goes on in Ukraine. Despite this, discussions are already underway over how the rebuilding of Ukraine will be paid for. The Financial Times Of London came up with an interesting idea this morning. A precedent was set when the entire treasury of Afghanistan (+/- $7 billion US) held by the US Federal Reserve Bank in New York was frozen. The final disposition of the funds was that 50% of the funds would go to NGOs (non-government organizations) providing humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and 50% would go to the families of those killed or injured during the 9-11 attack in 2001.
The estimated bill to rebuild Ukraine will run into hundreds of billions to perhaps over a trillion US dollars. The Russian central bank reserves frozen by sanctions could be as much as $600 billion US dollars. One can only guess as to the final value of all assets of the oligarchs frozen by sanctions. This is a just solution. Many lawyers will get rich making it happen. Several of my friends in the law profession have quipped the following:
"A law license is a license to steal."

We built and gave Afghanistan some nice military equipment and military infrastructure.

Exactly. $7 billion taken by the USA from Afghanistan, and the US ended up spending at least $50 billion in infrastructure there and rebuilding it to a condition a lot better than it was prior to 11 September 2001.

Probably more too. Seriously, the only reason Romania and Finland joined the Axis in WW2 is because of what the Soviets did to them.

You mean what the Allies did to them. We gave those countries to Russia for safe keeping to keep them out of Hitler's hands.

I just hope those 40 billion came with some good strings attached, and not just a hand out.

Hahahaha...Rand Paul is supposedly holding it up in the Senate to require Inspector General oversight of the funds. Not making himself popular with his peers right now.

already passed, they had 72 votes to pass, most Republicans voted for it.

Roosevelt is at fault as well.

Except Russia was Hitler's ally at that moment. And was supplying raw materials for this military buildup.

Who is going to pay us back our 40 fucking billion dollars?

Russia. We've arrested 10x that in their government assets alone.

And the American taxpayers paid for the physical wall or at least the portions that got built.

A whopping $1.5B I believe. How much did we give to Ukraine in the past 6 months?

Putin himself expressed his objectives, not to mention the obvious attempt to conquer areas he retreated from.

@Clambo - are you intentionally misspelling my name?

Our government constantly complains about the crimes of Russia, when our nation does the same goddamned crimes. I'm just tired of the hypocrisy. I'm tired of having to deal with newspeak and doublethink. I'm tired of dealing with people who engage with newspeak and doublethink.

If X is wrong, X is wrong, period. When the US does X, and Russia does X, if it's wrong, it's wrong for both nations to have done.

The US has spent 20 years bombing 7 nations. The US is the aggressive murderous nation. They've bombed Syria, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen and yet I am supposed to believe that Russia's incursion into Ukraine is some sort of moral outrage? Principles are above loyalty. My criminal fucking sociopathic government set the rules, so they can't complain about the bed they made. Fuck them.

60 billion dollars, I believe, 20 then 40 (40 is pending) - that's the budget of the entire military of Russia.

But really, most of that money isn't used to fight a war, it's a kickback scheme for mother fuckers like these:

That's our goddamned president our intelligence agencies installed. If this doesn't mean they should be disbanded, what does? What the fuck does it take? How goddamned corrupt does our government have to be before we say stop? We're almost all old here, but the next generation needs to put up with the shit we didn't kick down the drain. It is our responsibility to get rid of this shit. Biden should be a PRIME EXAMPLE of corruption for our generation, and the next.
