Title says it all. I'll post my comments later. Have to run for now. I'll post later this afternoon or late tonight. Figured this could be a non-political fun thread with some light debate on locations people want to go to.

I had a blast as an undergrad "studying" in Europe for two years. Drank beer and saw most of the countries in Western Europe, and a few in Eastern Europe, along with Turkey, Israel, and Egypt.

It was all on an incredibly tight budget where every dollar meant something. My grandmother was giving me $200/month, and I had occasional small jobs. I had to hitchhike some, and wasn't able to eat in restaurants much. But it really shaped me and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

As a grown up, I've been lucky enough to hit Japan, Australia, and Argentina.

Still want to see Hong Kong, Singapore, St. Petersberg, New Zealand, Chile. Want to see Northern Lights at least once.

Have been and can recommend:

Newfoundland - excellent hiking
Tatry mountains in South of Poland
Gotland island in Sweden
and closer to home Big Bend and Guadalupe mountains parks in W. TX.

The Falkland Islands:

And Libya and Iraq - if you dare.

If you want a more tame and low key vacation, go visit the Adirondack State Park region in NY. I grew up there, and it's a beautiful area - you'll be targeting something near Tupper Lake or similar - you want a small town and ideally you rent a cabin on the water. It's not a rich area, but it's a beautiful area. Treat the locals respectfully, don't bring any of your big city shit with you - don't talk up the shithole you are from. These people rejected city living 100 years ago, and were right to do it.

If you really are adventurous, pick any small town in all of North America or Canada, Europe, or South America. Here's a spot: https://g.page/GuilfordBNB?share=

Go to a place NOBODY visits. I hate tourist attractions, I hate going to a place only to meet other tourists.

You need to have the mindset of being curious about how other people live. Locals will be surprised you're there and they will be suspicious because the place is never visited. Just blend in. You'll find most people there are quite awesome.

Why do you promote a side in a war? Do you really think that Russia is going to lose just because the United States is using Ukraine for money laundering and has puppets in power there?

This stupid, pointless, easily avoidable war may result in mass starvation. It was trivial to prevent - all Ukraine needed to do was to not to seek NATO membership and stop murdering people in the Donbass. Are these unreasonable demands?

What I hear, which may be untrue, is that for every 1 Russian soldier that dies in this stupidity, 15 Ukrainian soldiers die. IF that is true, it's going to end with the decimation, literally, of the nation because men of fighting age are forced to fight. They are forced to fight over an evil government that insists on hosting NATO weaponry and insists on murdering people in the East of their country and they do this because they were installed by US intervention, through corruption.

That is what you rally around. You are being programmed to support this. You're a puppet.

This is just a mass slaughter in my opinion and you cheer it on. You're a shameful person.

Poland.

The Virgin Islands are good but I highly recommend Jeju-do, South Korea. It's an island with great beaches and Halla-san...plenty of great food and an interesting nightlife.

Surprised no one mentioned this one. Greek islands. Also Japan(NOT Tokyo), and Germany for Oktoberfest. And England(the countryside). And Hawaii and American Samoa.
15   HeadSet   @   2022 May 19, 7:49pm

Places I have spent time at that I would recommend:
Hawaii
Guam
Okinawa
Philippines
Azores
Anatolia (Turkish Riviera)
Sicily
England, Scottland, Wales
Norway
Provence (Southern France)

Wife and daughter took a trip to Japan awhile back, but we knew several Japanese families to show them around.

I really enjoyed my visit to Poland, especially because I had relatives to show me around.

Who is convinced to fight in these wars? I am not a coward, but I'm not fighting another persons battle for them.

Sorry, wrong thread, I think

But I'm just going to edit it and watch the feedback because it seems relevant still

I tend to agree, but sometimes you have to go to the tourist areas to see cool stuff. Your best friend visiting a tourist area will be your bartender.

We were in Nashville on Broadway at our hipster hotel for a 40th birthday. All the wives left and it was just me and my buddy. I don't even know where it was because I was having a good time, but our bartender, his brother and a former NFL player (name escapes me, not well known) go to an amazing Nashville dive bar off the beaten path. Top 5 weirdest night of my life and that was just this past November. Totally fun and I hate tourist Nashville. But I wouldn't have gotten to be in the more chill, my vibe part of Nashville without meeting the bartender in tourist central. So I now like Nashville a little bit more. Fuck Broadway St though.

So it's a give and take going to tourist areas. The locals that work there to make money know the actual good spots to visit and do things at. So I don't look at it as a negative if you're social enough.

In 2004, upon graduating college, I bought a plane ticket and flew to Amsterdam for $600 with a backpack

I spent the next 3mo months visiting countries on a whim and in a budget where I mostly stayed in hostels for $15/day.

Holland -> Belgium -> France -> Spain -> South France -> Italy -> Greece -> Italy again -> Austria -> Germany -> Poland

Out of all of those I enjoyed Greece and Poland the most.

Wouldn’t trade that 3mo of adventure for anything in the world.

I managed the whole trip on $5,000

This can easily be retorted with:

I'm trying to see if you will demonstrate thinking and if you have justification in your beliefs.

Here's what has happened so far. Oil has gone up drastically, this is good for all energy exporters, including Russia. Russia is now being paid in their own currency, this as stabilized the Ruble. Russia has FINALLY after 2 stupid decades of trying to work with the United States, realized this is a waste of time and effort. Europe may literally freeze to death and experience a famine in 6 months. Congratulations, dipshits.
22   zzyzzx   @   2022 May 20, 10:41am

All of Florida
New England

I hear there are free flights to Ukraine, and they'll even give you your own rifle.
