Germany faces its greatest economic crisis since the Second World War, thanks to the unrelenting idiocy of our political and media classes.

For about a week now, gas has not been flowing through Nord Stream 1, the crucial pipeline from Russia to Germany. Officially, it’s down for scheduled maintenance, and we’ve even been treated to a minor farce, featuring Robert Habeck pleading with Canada to violate their own sanctions and return to Russia a pipeline turbine that had been shipped there for repairs. Unofficially, of course, we’re being squeezed, as an inducement to stop our war-prolonging material support to Ukraine, and for our imprudent bellicosity towards the country that keeps our lights on.

It turns out that Russia can do without German automobiles, but Germany can’t do without Russian gas.

I'm happy to see Europe's refusal to talk to negotiate and instead just being puppets of the US finally have consequences that people can no longer deny. The last 20 years of policy have been nothing but disaster for the West - from importing immigrants, to unrelenting and pointless war. I think the chickens are coming home to roost.

I recall a discussion about this in 2009 with my German brother in law.

I told him Germany was dependent on Russian gas and they could decide to blackmail Germany or turn off their heat and light.

I was making fun of Merkle sucking up to Russia.

I think I was talking about how the USA taxpayers spent a hundred billion or more defending Germany from a Russian invasion and now Germany was dependent on those bastards.

I think it is already over. When I travelled in Germany circa 2010, it was a really nice country, enjoyed visit/beer/scenery/people a lot. In 2018 it was already fucked up, trains not departing on time, trash all over larger cities, and diversity of the worst kind in train stations. If I would be a womyn or a smaller male, I'd be afraid. This June I flew through Munich and airport had turned to shithole, worse than in Warsaw or even Vilnius. Flights delayed/cancelled all over place, almost nowhere to eat, the only service was blaring on interterminal trains that boarding without masks is verboten.

There are still plenty of nicer smaller or mid-size cities where everything works which are very beautiful, largely powered by local wealth which is looking out for their local environments as opposed to the US where people stop caring beyond their privately secured driveway. But yeah, most large cities governed by leftoids are - like in the US - mostly fucked by now.

Germany is free to do trade with whomever they want and they should do so, their problem was never Nordstream 2, it was gutting all their own perfectly safe and reliable nuclear reactors and coal plants. The only reason for the Ukraine/Russia war is 3 corrupt regimes, the US, Russia, and the Ukraine, deciding the hell with diplomacy, let's just fight yet another unnecessary war. Germany should neither support Ukraine nor Russia, just stay out of this bs, and focus on their own eoncomy and energy sources.

Interesting: so the Germany is free to trade with whoever it chooses to and they should do so, but the completely valid reason for the war is that Ukraine should not be free to associate with whoever it wants to - EU, NATO, Interstellar Federation, Galactic Empire - but needs a permission from the Russia because, because.... JUST BECAUSE... and the US is "guilty of war" which the Russia has launched because it actually follows (albeit feebly) the agreement to assure Ukraine's (and Kazakhstan's and Belarus', btw) "independence and sovereignty in the existing borders" it signed along with the Russia in exchange for Ukraine surrendering the world's 3rd nuclear arsenal and shitload of strategic delivery vehicles (some of which are being used now to bomb their civilian population).

Ah, the principles, the consistency!
