You can. It's actually not the difficult. All you need is a way to measure point to point distance accurately, and measure shadows accurately. The further the distance between two points, the more exact. You really should have 3 or 4 points.

I don't particularly follow sports and certainly not the WNBA so I never heard these reports.

Was there ever any controversy that Gainer was 100% a man, testicles and all, joining the WNBA? Is it indisputable that he is just like Dylan Mulvaney (remember him). I don't recall Gainer ever being called "trans".
