#aspecialanniversary 26 years ago this afternoon, a Greyhound bus pulled into San Jose, California. It had originated in San Antonio, Texas, I had a couple of hundred dollars and my pathetic few personal possessions. I was listening to a Portuguese music station on a now obsolete transistor radio. It was a hot and sunny afternoon. Little did I know that I would still be in the San Francisco Bay area 26 years later. It has been a real adventure and a real struggle.
Jack when are you going to tell us your rags to riches story? How did you go from landing in San Jose broke as fuck in 26 years, to hobnobbing with the rich folk in Napa Valley on the weekends?
Not "obsolete." A 26-year-old transistor radio will still pick up stations just fine today. I have a "bro-box" from the 80s that I still use in my garage.
You're one reason I can no longer park at San Jose airport for 50 cents a night and walk directly over to my terminal in less than five minutes. Go home! And take Elena with you.
