I didn't know that he regretted disbanding the Jeff Beck Group lineup with Rod Stewart. He would have made Woodstock had they not broke up. I don't think Jeff Beck got the recognition he deserved aside from Guitarists who aspire to play like him. Due to all of his instrumental stuff. After the Yardbirds, he formed the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, which I think was the best music he ever put out, as far as it being in a band with a singer, and having radio ready songs with a hook, and could tour album releases. It's a shame his vanity got the better of him. Probably a lot to do with naming the band after him. Imagine had they called that line up a better name, and they did go on to do Woodstock, and went on to cut many more albums. Rod Stewart wouldn't have been the Alpha Metro Sexual of the 80's and might have been viewed as a Rocking Front man in the 80's and not a Vegas Lounge Act.
Jeff Beck was a great guitarist that seemed to let his ego stand in his way of being in a band that had Records on everyone's turn table.
He's got Freeway Jam, but honestly nobody but him could pull off an album of Weedly Weedly shredding like that. He inspired way too many garage bands to just make random improvised noise and not really create full songs with lyrics and parts.
Still I hate hearing about any Rocker I grew up listening to dying. And 78? I had no idea he was so old now. It hits home the sad reality that every great musician I love and care about. Is either pushing 80 now, or is already dead.
Sad day for music.
