On March 28, 2023, Walmart will begin charging 42 cents per bag for delivery orders and 10 cents per bag for pickup or in-store purchases in the state of New Jersey.

However, some plastic bags, such as those used in the following situations, are exempt from the prohibition on single-use bags:

Bags used solely for wrapping uncooked meat, fish or poultry
Bags used solely for containing loose items such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, coffee or baked goods
Bags used solely for delivering newspapers
Laundry or dry-cleaning bags
Bags sold in packages containing multiple bags intended for use as garbage or pet waste bags.
This move is part of Walmart’s efforts to comply with New Jersey’s ban on single-use plastic shopping bags that took effect on May 4, 2022.

Before anyone pipes in about costs and that nonsense. The price of groceries has a mark up that has already factored in all of their operating costs, it's the reason groceries goes up in price when energy prices take a hit. This is just more Commies sticking their commie shit in our Peanut Butter.

People will swallow it like nothing happened.

How are they going to charge people in the self check out lanes?

Already doing it in CA: asking how many bags did you take and adding 10 cents per bag to the bill.

Trader Joe's double bags with paper bags and it's (free) included in the cost of their items.

Same way they charge people for the items they are buying... it on the honor system. The kiosk asks you to report the number of bags you are using.

Here in California they figured out how to make charging for bags actually consume more plastic... The stores are required to charge some money, but the bags have to be sturdy "multiple use" bags. So the rich and/or lazy people just pay the 10¢ and throw the bags out when they are done. Meanwhile the bags consume 5x the amount of plastic because they are thick enough to be used multiple times.

Combine the new 5x-more-plastic reusable bags with Covid (3 years ago) and the state mandated that the stores supply free bags to make up for the state mandate that people not bring their reusable bags back into the store. So now everybody gets free bags that also use 5x more plastic each. Genius! The free bag thing didn't last long, though.

Yeah that was a shock when my kid puked in our rental car north of San Diego on the way to Disneyland. Walked in and asked if they could give us paper towels and plastic bag to throw the clean up in. He said he couldn't. I'm like WTF, I need to clean this fucking car we're using for the next week. I continued to explain the situation and he eventually got some bags from pre-ban reluctantly. That was an eye opener.

I thought that NJ was a bring your own bags state as of sometime in 2022 already.

https://www.nj.com/topic/plastic-bag-ban/

Basically it's like going to Aldi now, except everywhere in NJ now. Or so I understand.

If he was so afraid of the bag police being sent to arrest him he could've just charged you 10 cents for the bag instead of wasting your time arguing.

This is an important concept that people should be shouting from the rooftops. But if they do, they'll be harassed by the woke mob.

How the country has flipped!

Speaking of rooftops, let's give a cheer for the L.A. Korean store owners during the riots of 1992. They couldn't possibly protect their stores, communities, and livelihood now, just 30 years later.

yeah, the rooftop koreans did not fuck around and saved themselves because LAPD was sent to protect Bel Air and all the other posh and white liberal neighborhoods

i am not sure today if the korean community would take on such a role against BLM rioters and looters

think about back then there were no Soros district attorneys as well as a militant Woke mainstream media .... look at what happened to the Army sergeant convicted in liberal Austin ...

It wasn't an argument necessarily. I was in a rush and wasn't the most polite. Caught me off guard with puke all over. I think asking him what he puts the garbage in was the winner. Then he just got old ones from the back room that he probably had to eat the cost on.

That transition had to blow for some business owners. I don't know for certain, but I believe paper is more expensive and likely emits more pollutants with harvesting trees and paper mills. Won't BK anyone, all CA had to do was actually enforce litter laws when they see it with a $100-200 fine when they get caught.

Plastic isn't inherently bad as long as people collect and put it in the appropriate can. Problem is people just throw shit out their window. You have a garbage or recycling bin at your house or you can toss it when you fill up the car. Or go through the drive through.
