There was a Jewish Revolt under Trajan and Hadrian that resulted in much of the population being expelled before the Battle of Yarmuk. Pre Yarmuk records have Israel mostly inhabited by Syrians who considered Arabs to be barbarians from the desert. Also, a good chunk of Hebrews already lived outside the region in Alexandria, Greece, Italy, etc. to begin with.

I'm sort of facially blind, so I don't tend to notice this stuff. I know there's racial lines. Persians aren't Arabs.

It's culture that can supersede racial differences. Religion is part of that culture. As an atheist, I can comfortably talk to with people that are Christian, atheist, Muslim, Jewish (to a degree, that's pretty insular culture actually), because I know ENOUGH about their beliefs and point of view to conform with them. I know what NOT to do when in their company.
