Look at the top of the air popper. That top has a removable metal tray that you put butter in to melt as the popcorn pops. Pour the melted butter on, then salt it. I remember watching the popcorn pile shrink at the point where the butter was poured in.
I learned to drive stick in a Subaru BRAT. Goddamn - it had a school bus-type shifter on the floor (no center column) - 1st gear and reverse were about a foot apart. It felt more like rowing than shifting with my right hand.
Yes, back then it was an art to learn how to shift while keeping an arm around the girl.
I only knew a couple of people who had a player for these during the brief period where they were "popular".

Ever heard VHS HiFi? Best analogue by far. Some studios recorded with it back in the day but it never caught on. It was like running tape at 30 feet per second (Flying heads).
I agree, it was almost as good as CD, but analog.
