The year is 1972. The RAND corporation proposes building a cross-country networks of maglev trains in vacuum sealed tunnels to carry passengers and freight at 14,000 mph kilometers beneath the surface of the Earth.

We used to dream.

Hyperloop before there was hyperloop.
also, remember a movie called Genesis II (with Mariette Hartley and two belly buttons) about a future with underground MagLev Trains that still ran, but surfaced into a primitive survival dystopian hellscape.

That was the first of three pilots. Planet Earth was the second. Strange New World was the third. All were declined.

Then a fourth, more drastic remake was done..and became a syndicated series with Kevin Sorbo. That was Andromeda.

I prefer the Martian with 3 boobs.

We had one of these around 1965 I think.

I asked AI. It would take a minimum of 414 miles at 3g to accelerate a person to 14,000 mph. And it would be very uncomfortable even if you weren't injured by that great weight of 3g of acceleration.

Then there's another 414 miles to slow down.

Airplanes work just fine. I can get to LA or Aruba in 4 hours from Chicago. I don't know, that's not bad. 2 hours to NYC or Denver. Could knock the time down to an hour coast to coast if people didn't care about the sound barrier noise. Reason why I'll probably never cross an ocean. I also don't care to.

The second season sucked except for the "Vorvon" episode - that was pretty twisted.

The first season had Erin Grey in sewn-in skin-tight gear. Some pretty good and some LOL corny episodes.

First season was best. Jamie Lee Curtis was in one episode.

Second season I liked Mark Lenard's two part episode. And I remember the satyr episode.

My wife found a smaller red version of this at one of the thrift places. I'll use that when I hang with by boomer buddies.

This is 1940's tech. A Willy's Jeep from WWII could be unpacked from a create and reassembled in around 4 minutes.

Reputedly, these were not only built, but extended (albeit without the vacuum), just not for the surface peasants, for military and secret bases and labs (and trafficking, DUMBs).

There was a vid about a guy whose NDA ran out who said he staffed an underground Starbucks that gave complimentary coffee to the users of a vast underground freeway system that exists UNDER LA for celebrities, politicians and importantes. Only the 'little people' get bogged down in traffic.

Started with nothing! Then ON TV and VHS. My parents transfered the super 8 reels to digital about 15 years ago. Maybe I’ll link one of the YouTube videos I uploaded to once I’m retired and no longer care if I get doxxed.

Not to mention that they killed DVD Audio and Sony went full Nazi content "protection" with DSD, effectively killing multichannel sound for two decades. Now it's Blu-ray audio, but I'd rather have something simpler and easier to buff if it gets scratched. There's no way to polish scratched Blu-rays - they have a "scratch-proof coating" on the underside that gets ruined.

Much more to that story.

Today I learned that Massadegh was a Qajar, the rival dynasty of the Pahlavis. There was a lot more going on than the story I previously heard, some Game of Thrones shit.

God I wasted so much time with those back in the day. Eventually I figured out you can only get so much air pressure before breaking the dinky nipple on the pump.
