This is why I've never understood unions. If I have the hand eye coordination or gumption to pull 20 containers an hour and some other guy is doing 5-10, I should get paid more.

If we're the same age and same time in the union, we get paid the same. That's bull shit in my world. I can promise you the employer wants to see work. What's the point in working harder or better if you get paid the same as the fat fuck doing half the work? All sorts of metrics plummet with unions.

Because the slackers out vote you in the union.

Modern container loading facilities have those massive cranes with the guy 200 ft up in a cab for 8+ hours manipulating a joystick for Tetris-like precision placement on cargo ships. Elite gamers make more than the highest paid crane operators. Fair is fair?

In fact, the skilled crane operators are superior to the elite gamers, because the former operate in 3 dimensions while the latter operate in 2D. That being said, men's ability to comprehend and analyze space (ask a woman to pack a given volume and get ready to either laugh or cry) is comparable to women's perception of emotional space. Each to his/her own.

Tom Cruise portrayed one in a movie. Opening scene shows exactly what you described.
