Hawaii is one of my favorite states to be offloaded as an unproductive welfare drain full of arrogant inhabitants who hate Haole (even the Japanese ones who came around 1920) and whose murderous decendants of Tahitan genocidal maniacs

The Tahitans wiped out the previous population of original Polynesian inhabitants from the Marquesas and instituted a brutal Stone Age theocracy where people were killed for setting foot on the wrong volcano and violating a caste taboo. Whose last absolute Monarch was Pompously called "The Great Feathered Mantle" These Tahitan (some say Somoan) conquerers then play the "Poor us, we were the original inhabitants" game, when they weren't, the Marquesans ("Menehune") were.

They were also Dolphin killing freaks. Who kills dolphins, FFS?

It's literally jaw dropping that people who behaved like this well into the 19th Century have the balls to lecture Haole on our cruelty. Fuck them.

Hawaii's survival depends almost wholly on the US MIC and tourism. The Kona coffee and domestic surfboard sales wouldn't give a tenth of the welfare the inhabitants receive from other states.

Far from being a danger, Hawaiian Independence would make Hawaii utterly dependent on the US leases around Pearl Harbor, free the US taxpayer from billions in subsidies and breaks and welfare checks.

And most importantly, no more Hawaiian Judges It's a win-win!

It should be replaced with more important Greenland, since we can't depend on the Canadians anymore for Arctic coverage.

Lol, I remember being shocked and yet laughing when I found out it was standard practice for a winning chief in Hawaii to use his rival's skull as a chamberpot.

Perhaps a solution is to reduce the role of the federal government. Let states handle things on their own (or not) when there's not a clear and compelling need for the federal government to be involved. That you'll have less complaint about unproductive welfare states.

There is a natural constituency of powerful people who would love to help with getting states' rights back: the governors and the state legislators.

Yes, but it was a mostly gentle democide.

I remember reading something about Polynesian wars where they liked to hang their prisoners of war bound upside down and eviscerate them live.

Problem is, Hawaii is a military fortress both above and below ground, and supporting the mewling welfare sink is a small price to pay. Of course, Oprah and the Globalists have a little DEW redevelopment friend for them, it's likely that Lahaina isn't the last.

Burn them alive while they are sleeping with their payola and beer, plow them under with the Freemason devices, and redevelop. Alexander the Great would have loved the DEWs and HAARPs.

Maybe we should charge up the Ark of the Covenant with a Tesla coil and pay Hawaii a visit.

I will visit 49 states (Alaska being last) and likely most of the territories at one point. I won't go to Hawaii. Ever. Guam is on the list. Really anything that has an airport I can go to. I'd rather hit all the Lesser Antilles islands before Hawaii. I'm not traveling 9-10 hours and 2 days for an expensive tourist trap.

Hawaii is beautiful, esp. the big island. The rainforest climate, tide pools, beaches and volcanoes are amazing. But I agree on the population, not sure why they turned out this way or if they've always been like this. It seems also that there is no need to finish any work started (maybe partially to blame on the climate making one lazy), so it's full of shacks, ruins and some trash on the streets, which contrasts its natural beauty. It's def overrated for the travel time, but it's also def worth a visit.

I'll take the advice, but I'm out for now. It's simply not worth it when I have the Caribbean 3-4 hours away. Hell even CA.

I like mountains and don't mind cold so Alaska is on the bucket list. HI just won't make the cut most likely. Wife has no interest. I have too many islands 3-4 hours away that are as good if not better. I don't think I'll ever cross an ocean and really have no interest in doing so. So Europe, Australia and Asia likely aren't in the cards currently. Guam would be about the only one because I think it would be funny.

I sold my condo in Hawaii this year. The level of commie exploded after the Lahaina fire. Bright side is it took less than 2 weeks to get an offer I was willing to accept.

Probably a good choice. CA has a big population, but it's still a 5 hour flight from there. I ain't sitting on a plane that long. East of the Mississippi no one really has an interest to go out there. I know you rented well, but the game comes to an end at some point. Hope you made out well on it.

I'll do a retirement vacation rental to cover the bills and secondary home, but by no means an investment. Kind of a Jan-June type thing in the Caribbean missing hurricane season. Still contemplating the pile of garbage. We'll see.

I'd rather go to Puerto Rico.

LOL. Maui is great. Natives are less than 10% of the population so don't have much real influence.
Yes - the government sucks and is heading toward CPP-land. A lot of this is just politics: trying to reduce mom-and-pop landowners
by stopping short term rentals. The idea is to get more long term housing availability- but it is bullshit. It is a grab by the hotel industry to get rid of a competitor. Then the "we will charge everyone $25 who is not a Hawaiian resident and arrives on a plane".
SCOTUS will strike that down eventually. If it can get out of the legislature of course....
Too many Canadians on Maui for some reason... another bad omen.

But-
Great beaches and if you are local you know the sweat spots that the tourists won't hit. Most involve a bit of rock scrambles.
Golfing if you are into that. Lot's of great hikes - though the best have been shut down over the years. The classic swinging bridges hike was a favorite.
No more. But- not as crowded since the pandemic and Lahaina fires.

I don't find "natives" unfriendly as long as you are friendly. Gotten a lot of good fishing tips (whipping technique out here) from natives during conversation.
It is more the bad political policies and far left authoritarianism that is the worse aspect of living in HI.
And guess what - the government is still primarily Haole /asian run today. US did overthrow the native government btw... but it was us or UK or FR.
Don't talk about the Hawaiian kingdom - it still exists to many natives and why they are under-represented: they don't participate.
They do commit a lot of petty crime and are over-represented in prison, with some gang issues.

Yeah - they are defensive of their culture and language. Is that a surprise? At one time, Hawaiian was one of the most literate cultures.
And there is a strong push to keep the native language alive. Very conservative socially. Strong family bonds - for those families that can remain intact.

If you had bought a nice ocean front condo in kihei/wailea a decade back, you would be spending 3 months there and the rent from the remaining 9 months would cover your nut. But now I would not buy if you need to rent it out. Too uncertain.

As to work ethic? Come on. It is Hawaii. Even the non-native contractors are PIA to deal with. Their workers will take off on a great surf day, etc..
Is that really any surprise? It is just something you get used to or you do the work yourself. It can be hot and humid, but not unbearable.
Water is warm. Fishing. kayaking, volcanos, rain-forests - a real diversity of experiences are available.

Get hooked in with a savvy Filipino, and you can get all your tourism stuff in Maui for a fraction of the cost of the slick yuppie robber baron chastity belts on the beach.

True. And get great food spot recommendations. Cash is king here. Hit craigslist too.

A Local guide is well worth the cost, even better if he/she is a friend you've encountered. I had some great times that way.

If you want to see the active Volcanoes up close, leave before sunrise, pay a local fisherman, lava rock diver or boater to get you really close instead of the helicopter rides where you won't see much. Totally worth it they can get you as close as 20 feet, don't forget to brush off any lava hitting your skin. And hold on if you're departing from a small beach, the surf esp. coming back can be brutal ;)
