I'm vaguely familiar with how a territory gains statehood.. but have no idea how a Canadian province could cleave themselves from thier current mother country.

No. Iron ore is massive business in N. Minnesota. If you haven't been to Duluth you wouldn't know. Not a knock on you, but I know most here have done little to no visits to the midwest.

No trades. We just take. Canada has no leverage. We don't need to give anything up. You ain't giving up the land of 10k lakes to Canada. You can't lose that Lake Superior real estate either.
