Truth. I wasn't there, but have an Army buddy that was and I trust his word. We were there for heroin protection. His unit was patrolling to keep the poppy fields active and not bombed. Not a joke or lie.

It was the mountain fighting that killed people and US troops. Otherwise they were just rolling around or walking and Afghani's wanted them there. They were likely making bank on it. Those that could speak english a bit were really nice people is what he told me.

The Taliban is mafia. They were taking a cut of the yield. When we came in the farmers made more. So occasionally the patrols would get ambushed, but it wasn't that common.
