Once when working rehab at Chelsea Hospital a very elderly woman came in being pushed by her daughter. She stopped her daughter in the hallway saying “need to wait for Mom”
We all smugly looked at each other. Sure as shit 106 year old Mom was in the car being pushed in by son-in-law. Not terribly funny but true.
When my own mother was in the hospital, dying of a brain tumor, a young doctor came around and asked her if she knew who the president was. He was trying to gauge how far gone she was.
"Eisenhower" she said, looking straight at him.
We were all silent for a moment.
Then she said "Gotcha." She was messing with him. Still there!
