Likely lying. Depends on the work as well. I'd have no problem sitting at a computer or talking to people for 80 hours a week. I did it. Life is miserable and you get burned out mentally. A blue collar job, hell no. Not happening outside of a one off week during a job deadline. Your body would shut down if you did that for 4-6 weeks. Something like concrete labor.

Indians as far as H1B are weird though. They'll just work 12-14 hours, but talk on the phone all the time. I can't recall ever going into an Indian run gas station where they weren't talking on the phone with someone. Usually on speaker. I'm guessing it's the same in IT/tech with them. Ear buds in just talking to one of the 1B plus buddies back home.

This is what I've heard from several IT managers in the 90s and 2000s. They spend at least half the time on the phone, probably getting instructions from their cousin back in South Asia how to do the job they were hired to do.

Dislike unions, but apprenticeships are the way to go. At the end of the day you have to do the job. I don't need to know about Anthropology if my goal is to be an engineer. While an interesting topic, it does nothing to advance civilization or our nation. I can just read that in my free time.

College should be two years industry related. Instead of 9 hours bull shit and 3 hours of what you majored in, just do 12-15 on the field you want to get into. Get through the pipeline faster so you can do what you want and help grow the economy in some fashion.

I started in Tech in the 90s, saw the writing on the wall and talked to engineers/others about unionizing (I'm not an engineer). They laughed because they thought they were untouchable. Guess they didn't think that in the late 90s when layoffs started, or maybe they thought it was a short-term anomaly. .

Yup, and I have never had a H1B visa Indian, that could outcode me in simple run of the mill enterprise and website coding.
Now I'm not bashing Indians in general. I'm sure the Indians Musk employs to make Teslas, and self landing rockets, and power walls, and tunnel boring machines, are technically way out of my league doing things I could never do. But for 99% of the companies out there, they are simply replacing American workers with cheap labor. To the detriment of their IT infrastructure. They brought in 13 Indians to replace me and take over the code base I wrote for the company I was working for. It took me 3 years to write 7 complex systems. It took them over 24 months to deliver an unusable Netsuite integration of those processes, databases and application. According to ex-coworkers still there. It's missing most of the best features, and it's buggy and ineffective.
I was forced to spend about 5 months with them to bring them up to speed on what my codebase was doing. They would get angry with me, because they couldn't understand it. Demanded that I simplified my explanations, and bitched about the complication of my processes. Without even understanding how its done.

H1B visas should not be used for any Enterprise coding. Unless that company actually has proprietary chips and hardware that goes along with it. Even then that guy should wear both hats, otherwise they should have to hire Americans to code the client side of things.
