By importing our landlords!

By importing the best that would be part of us. We are all imports in America.

Currently H1B categories doesn't include "landlord" as special skill. I'm all for adding it (while removing IT-related stuff, of course). It's time we have landlords more eager to please their tenants at 2am on Tuesday night while taking in half the rent.

s. How can we not have have a shortage of skilled STEM professionals?

Because it only takes a few great people to produce amazing results in technology. Millions of Indian IT workers decrease productivity instead of increase it by complicating what can be done simply.

Yes, it only takes a few great people to produce amazing results that benefit us all. Those few great people are one in a million. If we have only a few people to begin with, our odds of finding that one diamond in the rough is greatly diminished.
I still don't understand the logic of keeping out the wealth makers, and keeping in the wealth takers.

I think I disagree with you about that one in a million. I think in a right system and proper principles leadership everyone can be that person, given the opportunity. Because all those "gems" who came here, were nothing in their own country, and coming here America's system allowed them to be great. I believe the system that is based on freedom is the one that will do that.

“This action is not only an attempt to divert attention away from Trump’s failure to stop the spread of the coronavirus and save lives, but an authoritarian-like move to take advantage of a crisis and advance his anti-immigrant agenda,” the congressman tweeted. “We must come together to reject his division.”

Wow, what a great example of an accusation of !RACISM! in order to keep fucking over American workers with H1B's and illegals.

Bet you that Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), gets funding in some sneaky way from one of those H1B consultancies.

Look at the number of India based companies like Infosys, Tata, Wipro, Tech Mahindra whose founders don't even live in the US. They have cronies inside Tech companies like Apple in an authoritative hiring positions and only hire their own kind. Do we still in America or Banana Republic? Does any politician have the guts to ban these companies and American companies like Accenture from bringing cheap labor to eliminate American jobs? I just got a call from a friends friend (US Citizen) that we was terminated from his High Tech job. This has to stop.

Did your friends friend say if his job was replaced by H1B?

End illegal immigration!

End outsourcing to China!

Let's track which Congressmen vote for H1B loopholes.

The H1B program should be stopped. Full stop.

Some sort of h1b will live. Us education doesn't produce enough smart people, they product athletes.

Edison , and bulk of scientist are from other countries. Bulk of invention and creativity is done by immegrants. That's how us keeps edge, by importing smart people and selling product they make back to their own countries.

Great, let's shut all our doors to the vast number of foreigners pounding down our doors at every University from MIT to Stanford to Technical College of Upper Sandusky to study STEM.

No foreigners are pounding down the doors to Mumbai Very Most Excellent Technical School or Lucky 88 Dragon Computing Machine School of Shanghai.

The main problem with K-12 is the dumbing down because of our insistence on equality. In most schools around the world, if you fall down after Algebra, everyone else moves on. They don't allow half the class to wait months until the dummies grasp the square of the hypotenuse.

KgK one says
Edison

Edison was born in the USA, just like Eli Whitney (Cotton Gin), Sam Colt (Interchangeable Machined Parts), Henry Ford (Mass Produced Vehicles), Gene Krantz (Apollo Program), Chuck Peddle (6502 Processor in first microcomputers), Bill Mensch (same), Percy Spencer (microwave ovens), and Wozniak (Actual Design of Apple).

Everybody that knows anything about the IT industry knows 90% of H1Bs education and experience consists of "Windows 2000 for Dummies". They are hired because they are cheap, not good. When they run into a problem, they call Cousin Habib in Karachi who owns a computer repair / cell phone accessories booth in the Maandi.

Boeing's failure with the 787 and then Starliner proves what happens when you rely on H1Bs for anything more than basic tech support.

As I suspected, this was discussed in my standup meeting this morning. I just listened. My peers are kind of freaking out about what'll happen with the spin off company. Also aren't sure if this apply to them or only new applicants.

Trump to Halt Foreign Visa Worker Programs to Free Up 600K U.S. Jobs for Americans

Jobs for Americans.

Not for illegals.

Not for Chinese.

Not for Indian H1B's.

For Americans.
72   Maga_Chaos_Monkey   2020 Jun 22, 6:34pm

Yeah, that was going around at work a couple of hours ago too haha... Doesn't look like it'll affect anyone I work with:

Sec. 3. Scope of Suspension and Limitation on Entry. (a) The suspension and limitation on entry pursuant to section 2 of this proclamation shall apply only to any alien who:

(i) is outside the United States on the effective date of this proclamation;

(ii) does not have a nonimmigrant visa that is valid on the effective date of this proclamation; and

(iii) does not have an official travel document other than a visa (such as a transportation letter, an appropriate boarding foil, or an advance parole document) that is valid on the effective date of this proclamation or issued on any date thereafter that permits him or her to travel to the United States and seek entry or admission.

Yeah the list of Indian inventors is endless. That’s why when you go there the streets are filled with amazing inventions Athletic Americans can only dream of created by the brilliantly educated Indian ppl.

Most Indians I work with can’t manage to QA my code, let alone actually come up with their own shit.
74   RWSGFY   2020 Jun 22, 7:30pm

Everybody at work liked that move. Even some former H1B holders who are citizens now. Funny how the perspective changes.

A friend working in a big tech company reported that the mad push to quickly roll everybody through performance review process by the end of this month (usually a precursor for big layoffs) has been suddenly put on hold "until further notice". They employ shitload of H1Bs, of course.

Mostly Apple, Google, and Facebook execs.

They will have to pay Americans American wages.

Tech was never Trump's friend in the least, so he loses nothing by this, and gains votes.
82   Booger   2020 Jul 16, 5:45pm

The whole point of this shit is to ensure wages and working conditions in the US revert to the global mean. People like Bezos and Gates think it's racist that Americans have better quality of life than Indians or Chinese people do, and so they see this as social justice (that just so happens to make them richer and further cements their control).
83   clambo   2020 Jul 16, 6:28pm

Trump understands that American workers are being displaced by foreigners, which benefits those who hire them (Hewlett Packard) and nobody else.

The law of supply and demand applies to labor.

Even my friend who is a high school graduate understands this. She knows that all of the Haitians at her workplace keep her wages down.

The whole foreign worker visa program is bullshit, it’s abused and it hurts Americans.

Don't forget Disney, who should be prosecuted for blatant HxB abuse. Trump's reining in of the HxB will hurt Disney, which is why Disney owned ABC starts each Nights News broadcast with a 10 min anti-Trump rant.

Corporations want cheap labor. They’ll fuck Americans to get it. Cheap foreigners is an easy way to get that.

Any one know what H1 are being requested by category?

If they are paying ~20k n processing work, that tells me job is in demand.

People can target education and aim for those jobs.

Yes, and the same mechanism explains most of the hate for Trump in the media.

Corporations were making bank by stiffing working wages in all kinds of ways.

Now Trump is interfering with that, giving the wages back to the workers, which helps not only them, but helps the economy reach new record heights.

What we had was corrupt capital, mostly Democrats but also many Republicans, stealing from workers and the economy. Trillions of dollars.

They are angry that they cannot continue to suck worker blood under Trump. Worker blood must be delicious.

Perot made dis-incentivizing offshoring a part of his platform when it came to NAFTA. Apparently he and his family got death threats and he dropped out of the race. I don't see this as a coincidence. There is a LOT of money on the line here for large corporations, and they'll do anything to keep it flowing, even if it means destroying the country.

The moratorium only applies to issuing new H1Bs, not people who currently are here and working under an existing H1B. So I don't see the logic you describe in what is going on with your company as it pertains to H1Bs.

H1B is good for 3 years with possible extension for another 3. At any moment there are shitload of people nearing the end of their visa and needing a new one.

Extending visas is not the same as issuing new ones to people in India. That is what is being stopped.

You can extend it only once (unless GC app is filed). It means that many H1-B workers have an expiration date and will have to be replaced by fresh H1-B meat. Which has just became impossible.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/02/14/republicans-join-democrats-import-h-2b-visas/?source=patrick.net

A group of Senate Republicans has joined Senate Democrats to demand President Joe Biden import more H-2B foreign visa workers to take working-class, blue-collar American jobs.

On Monday, 17 Senate Republicans signed a letter with 17 Senate Democrats that urges Biden to “release the maximum allowable number of additional” H-2B foreign visa workers to inflate the labor market despite more than 12 million Americans remaining jobless, though all want full-time employment.

The senators also asked Biden to speed up the process so U.S. employers could get foreign visa workers quicker into blue-collar American jobs, often in construction, landscaping, the tourism industry, and other occupations.

“Without meaningful H-2B cap relief, many seasonal businesses will be forced to scale back operations, cancel or default on contracts, lay off full-time U.S. workers, and, in some cases, close operations completely,” the senators wrote.

The 17 Republicans who signed the letter are:

Kevin Cramer (R-ND)
Mike Rounds (R-SD)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
James Risch (R-ID)
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Cynthia Lummis (R-WY)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Mike Crapo (R-ID)
John Thune (R-SD)
Susan Collins (R-ME)
Pat Toomey (R-PA)
Roger Wicker (R-MS)
Jerry Moran (R-KS)
Rand Paul (R-KY)
John Barrasso (R-WY)
Tim Scott (R-SC)

WTF are they doing?
93   clambo   2022 Feb 16, 1:32pm

H1B visa workers are scabs, taking jobs away from American workers.
Scumbag overlords hire them to save money and fuck over American workers.
The system sucks, is abused, and all H1B workers should be sent to their respective hellhole TFCs (totally fucked countries).

bowing to their corporate overlords. Currently labor has some negotiating powers, but after importing a few hundred thousand workers it will go away.
