Derbyshire's chief firefighter, Rob Taylor, has passed away after a "sudden and short" illness. He joined the organisation in 2008 after moving from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. Mr Taylor began his Derbyshire career as a firefighter at Buxton Fire Station and rose through the ranks, becoming deputy chief fire officer in 2021. He later took over as chief fire officer from Gavin Tomlinson, who had stepped back due to a diagnosed health condition and died a month ago.

It is with very heavy and broken hearts that the family of James Aaron Brown announces his sudden passing on September 20, 2025, a few weeks short of his 16th birthday. James is the beloved and dear son of his parents, Aaron and Jeanette Brown. James was the incredibly special brother to his siblings Hunter (Hailey), Chelsea, and Hannah. James was the loving grandson of Jack & Joanna Kustermans, Sue & Louis Boucher, and Mike Brown. James was an amazing nephew to his aunts and uncles Shannon (Jason) Manning, Jennifer (late Linda) Kustermans-Albert, Jennine (Ian) McKenzie, and Jeff (Tara) Kustermans. A friend and cousin to Cohen, Paige, Kinsey, Kail, Ike, Clark, Viktor, Alexis, and Colton. James will be remembered by his extended family and his many amazing friends. Our community will miss James each and every single day.

James was known for his love of the outdoors — especially hunting, fishing, and bogging through muddy trails on his four-wheeler. If there was mud, James was in it — usually with a grin. He had a playful love for food, especially bread — but only the middle, a quirky trait that brought smiles to those who knew him best.

His outgoing nature, sense of humor, and fearless approach to life made him unforgettable. James lived with joy, and he gave it freely to others.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. at DENNING’S OF FOREST. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, Thedford. Ashlei K. Schwendinger, age 49, of Dubuque, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.  To celebrate Ashlei’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date.
Ashlei was born on August 1, 1976, in Florida.
Ashlei graduated from high school and then attended Hawkeye Community College.  She married the love of her life, Paul Schwendinger, October 20, 2006, in Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin.  Ashlei was an extremely devoted wife and mom.  Her family meant the world to her and she truly loved taking care of everyone.  Ashlei enjoyed entertaining and always looked forward to hosting the family’s annual Christmas cookie exchange.  She was also a dedicated worker who was employed as an IT Specialist at UnityPoint Health.  In her free time, Ashlei and Paul loved spending time together in the kitchen making new recipes.  She also liked spending time outside and working in her gardens.  She was a homebody who liked to watch movies, root for the Green Bay Packers, and anything Baby Yoda.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing video games on her phone, especially Pokémon Go.  Ashlei was a wonderful wife, mom and friend and will be greatly missed.
