As a Venezuelan-American, there are things I must say. My family—my parents, my sister, and my entire extended family—lost everything. A lifetime of work, savings, and investments were completely wiped out, destroyed by the regime that has had Venezuela in a chokehold for more than 25 years: a #narco-dictatorship.
What happened to my family has happened to millions of others. The #Venezuelan exodus is now the second-largest displacement crisis in the world, after #Syria. This is not just a tragedy—it is one of the most severe #humanitarian disasters on Earth.
And the suffering does not stop there. The #dictatorship has imprisoned hundreds of #political prisoners. Thousands have been killed simply for speaking out. More than one-third of the population has fled the country.
They did not leave for better opportunities or for the #AmericanDream. They left to survive—to stay meant death.
The world may see Venezuela as a failed state, but the truth is this: it is a country that was occupied long ago. Our territory, #natural resources, and institutions have been fully overtaken by #hostile foreign powers.
#Iranian militias, #ChineseCommunistParty enterprises, and #Russian intelligence agencies operate freely and with impunity inside our country. Venezuela is no longer just a regional crisis—it has become a geopolitical threat to the entire #WesternHemisphere, a launchpad for authoritarian expansion throughout the Americas.
In 2024, #MaríaMachado (#MariaMachado) led a #peaceful democratic uprising and won the election. Her team risked their lives to smuggle physical ballot receipts out of the country—irrefutable proof of victory that the regime tried to bury. Hope was reignited in the hearts of Venezuelans. Once again, people believed change was possible.
