This is sobering:

A little background - In February 1996 I purchased the house next door to this one (on the left) for $119K and sold it in 2006 for $404K. Both homes had been for sale at the same time (owners married each other and moved) and this particular property sold late 1995 for $126K, was sold to a flipper for $299K in 2004 and the final owner for $385K also in 2004. I guess the last one lost it to the bank. Funny, I remember multiple conversations with the last owner over that picket fence about the skyrocketing value of his property - him getting all excited that it had gone over 500K, guess he spent that equity! I took my equity and ran like hell.

Anyway, six years after the last sale of this property, it is now an REO listed at $135K and I don't think they will get that!

IMHO $130,000 is overpriced.

Wow! Almost trying to hit the 1988 mark. Where are the investors/flippers?

Yes, everything after 1998 was polluted with bubble prices. $384K in 2004 was just insane all over the bay area and central valley.

1996 prices however were very reasonable given salaries and risks.

Times were good then. You were able to buy a home then with a decent downpayment, and a job that pays $10/hour.

Yeah, the redfin link is also it. Don't know why the first one doesn't work - does for me! Definitely a pre bubble price. They had it listed for 120 days at 200K so this drop is new. Course it's an REO, but this is finally close to actual value. I think it will go even lower before it sells.

Wow thanks for sharing the story. Good for you for running away and making a tidy profit. Unfortunate story for the couple who got screwed. :(

Forget the Granite countertops - the shopping cart in the driveway does it for me -

The House in on Pacheco Blvd. is worth like 55K and it is not likely to be a owner occupied it should be a rental as that area is not all that sweet. It makes a good rental for some, But my god 130K is nearly the USA Avg. correct? (shows how silly ca. still is, that is not going to stay that way. IMHO
