Me neither. Thank God for Slingbox. I can do some work while watching on the side.

It would actually be pretty awesome if we completely restructured government and rewrote the tax code.
Not that congress will ever pass such legislation.

I like that concept of a VAT if it would do away with income taxes.

AMEN BROTHER
Not that congress will ever pass such legislation.
Can't we get this done with a constitutional convention? 2/3rds of the states can call for it.

When has a Tax ever made another tax obsolete? That's like saying "Well why don't we all get life and health insurance, then everyone only carries collision insurance on their cars?"

I wish they did it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
They wouldn't do it in a way where all the tax loopholes go away. Wealthy people run the government, they are not into whole justice and honesty system. It's more of a "the less people know the better".
I thought the speech was charismatic, funny at times with the salmon joke. But just like any other political speech, it's just a speech.
Action is what congress will do. Will they reduce debt? Will they get rid of tax loopholes in the tax code? Will they stop subsidizing housing industry which has been robbing America of wealth? Will they create government that is more open to the people?
We'll see I guess. I certainly asked Barbara Boxer to do all of those things. But ultimately I only get one vote.
I think the President has hit a turning point, politically. Things have been so bad for him politically for so long, people have forgotten his gift of oratory.
People tire of the endless drumbeat of doom and gloom from our cacophany of pundits, comedians, artists, and media reporters. Anyone else notice that gold prices just fell?
Now that doom and gloom has become entrenched in the American body politic, I think Obama can look to exploit it with his message of hope. Democrats are already beginning to frame the debate for 2012 - Obama rescued the economy from the greatest financial disaster since the Great Depression. Tea Party = Doom and Gloom. Democrats = A Better Tomorrow.
Did anyone catch the Tea Party Rebuttal to the SOTU? Bachmann is worried about IRS agents checking people's lightbulbs? Are these people crazy or what?
I don't watch these things since it's a waste of time, and always very boring and self-serving. Even if I liked whomever the president was I wouldn't watch. The only presidential speech I ever liked was a SNL presidential speech parody when Jimmy Carter was president and the speaker of the house and senate were in the background nodding off.
I thought he already did ever damn thing, in his first 100 days. Remember, he got a Nobel Peace prize just for showing up.
He needs to work some songs into his variety act though, his monologue shtick is getting old.
That's Obama, the hardest working Man in show business.
I wasn't expecting much, but still came away uninspired. He started strong, but the whole speech seemed to slide downwards as it droned on about not much in particular.
I'd like to think that the divided congress will lead to more "working across party lines" but I know better. By St. Patrick's day, (if not sooner) it will be politics as usual. Working together with "the other guy" seldom gets you re-elected, and in this 24-7-365 twitter, facebook, cable news, always plugged in world we live in, its about raising more money than you give away to your constituents, not about the good of the people as a whole. One mans pork is another persons "vital" pet project.
For real change, we almost need a generational shift, not simply a change in which party is controlling the house. Not enough young (sub-40) people are in politics at any level.

You do realize that the UN is not the government, and has no actual power to do anything, right?
Watching now... not sure what to make of it.
Will post more later.
