Yesterday I attended the public Board Meeting to protest the proposed sewer rate hikes of the West County District.

To Have my say. What a joke!

First: I was the only protestor there despite the proposed 47% hike over 4 years. Apparently they had only received 180 odd protests out of 25K odd parcels!

Second the board chairman questioned the increase I cited (as he thought it was only 7% yearly). I said its compounded besides its simple maths divide the final rate by the current rate (377/256=1.47265625=47% mate! elementary maths). Jesus these are our betters? These elites in their grandiose offices. Maybe they could reduce our rates by a reduction in their palatial surroundings, not that I want them to have their meetings on a lawn in a park somewhere.

I proposed that in the fairness of democracy (whadaJoke) that the rules be changed so that instead of the requiring 50% + 1 vote to defeat the rate hike, it be changed to 50% - 1 to approve the hike. Blank stares is all that received.

Sam Sham Democracy.

So since you can't judge its ok?

So presumably the 99.28% that didn't object figured it out. No information was provided as to why the increase was so high. I guess its just because they can.

I'm going on inflation, there are usually separate charges for all the biggies like seismic improvement et. al.

Infrastructure another boon doggle which apparently people will accept without question because they feel the bumps and potholes in the roads.

We don't actually live in a democracy, at least on paper it's a representative republic.

Anyhow, what has development expansion been like? What was the increase history before now? Is the money to fund major overhauls or what?

My landlord is lamenting the fact I actually want him to replace the 1970-era HVAC. Only the heat works and it must be a 60%-efficient antique because my gas bills were high despite all my best efforts at sealing cracks and wearing sweaters. And the cooling hasn't worked in a decade. Some people prefer to just let a place fall into ruin. I think if the heater went out too he'd be telling me to try using the fireplace instead.

Hey dude they only thing they said to me was that they have the lowest rates in the bay area (unverified but perhaps not in 4 years) and don't have no debt (haven't issued any "bonds").

I just had to pay 4k when I bought the shithole to connect to their goddam sewer, but I guess they know a cash cow when its walked into the noose.

People says people want what they don't pay for, that's zilch, people pay a lot. At some estimates the parasite of civilization gobbles up 80% odd of all productivity. Goods you buy have been taxed (people who made them paid tax, import duties, this and that tax, they don't call it a tax 'cos the masses can't spell) but you got to pay more tax, tax on tax is not uncommon it is the norm. Sales tax. state tax, mf tax, special assesments,,,

The Maw is open wide and it will be fed by an obsequious population, until it gets too hot! then sam sham the fairy mans your uncle? kabish?

50 years ago they walked on the moon but now we grovel here... fighting wars of foolish attrition, Why you think that is? There is limitless energy and food out there, there is no shortage of anything in this this universe, God has provided (if u like?), the only shortage is of logic and the surfeit of immediate gratification and the pessimism of the uneducated, the knavery of the lazy. Government has abrogated their responsibility to the people, mired the people in unwarranted debt to crony sections of society, what you wanna see Syria here before things change, no people think they are powerless but they ain't they just don't care. until its too late. They truly deserve their sycophantic fate.
