You know the rich are getting richer when the walk in CLOSET in the master bedroom of their mansion is BIGGER than your entire kitchen:

Isn't it nice to be rich?

It's no Hearst Castle, but it's not bad.

A movie star could buy this with one film, eg. DeCaprio's take from Inception. . .

That pile of crap is SO remarkably tacky and ugly. It looks like a cartoon version of a child's interpretation of a what a 'fancy house' should look like.

It's no Hearst Castle,

Agreed. At least the Hearst Castle was built with some sense of genuine grandeur (from wiki):

Hearst Castle featured 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres (0.5 km2) of gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world's largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds. Morgan, an accomplished civil engineer, devised a gravity-based water delivery system which transports water from artesian wells on the slopes of Pine Mountain, a 3,500-foot (1,100 m) high peak 7 miles (11 km) east of the castle, to a reservoir on Rocky Butte, a 2,000-foot (610 m) knoll less than a mile southeast from the castle.[4]

That dump pictured above only has 42 rooms! Of course, nothing says 'high class' like the use of 'rare woods' and the ability to flush your toilet from anywhere in the world with your iphone. From the ad:

AN AMERICAN MASTERPIECE - MICHAEL GROSS, AUTHOR OF 740 PARK. ON THE ONLY GATED ST. IN NORTHERN NJ, NEVER BEFORE HAS A HOME OF THIS GRANDEUR, QUALITY, TECHNOLOGY, IN THE NATIONS WEALTHIEST ZIP CODE (FORBES 08)8 MILES TO NEW YORK CITY BEEN AVAIL. 30,000 SQ.FT. RECEPTION ROOMS OF GRAND SCALE PROPORTIONS. RARE WOODS, STONE, MARBLE & 12' HIGH CEILINGS THROUGHOUT. POOL HOUSE W/KITCHEN& 2BTHS,A 65'POOL,& TENNIS COURT. HEATED DRIVEWAY& GATED MOTOR COURT. GENERATOR, FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM,& THE MOST ADVANCED SECURITY SYSTEM. SMART HOUSE WHICH CAN BE OPERATED ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD FROM AN IPHONE. NOTHING LIKE IT. BROCHURE AVAILABLE.

The mansion looks so hideous and freaky that it causes me to shiver. I've lived in an apt that was smaller than that walk-in closet.

Reminds me of Saddam's Palace in 2003. It was wonderful taking a shit in a gold plated bathroom after living in the field for months. I mean palaces like that are great, but those hardwood floors really hurt your back when you sleep on them. I would rather have my fighting trench.

Thank the tax looholes and socialism for the wealthy Republicans.

7   edvard2   2011 Sep 13, 12:52am

And you know... I don't care how nice it might be. Still in 'Jersey'. Uh... No thanks.

8   Truthplease   2011 Sep 13, 1:01am

JERSEY! I didn't see it was in JERSEY! It might as well be in Iraq.

9   HousingWatcher   2011 Sep 13, 1:19am

And the property taxes are a whopping $225,000 a year!

10   edvard2   2011 Sep 13, 1:31am

Yes... Joisy it is! All I can think of is that I lived in the east coast for a few years and boy does it suck. Winters are brutal.

12   Truthplease   2011 Sep 13, 1:45am

That's some nice shit!

13   terriDeaner   2011 Sep 13, 1:53am

That carpet looks like it's from home depot.

14   tatupu70   2011 Sep 13, 1:57am

Which picture has carpet?

15   HousingWatcher   2011 Sep 13, 4:19am

He's referring to the rug in the very last picture.

We know rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer, when the average income pretty much stays the same, but the number of people earning less than the poverty line increases. Is that simple enough for you?

Speaking about "Competing with the Chinese", somebody at the NYT Opinion Page makes a very good living advocating more Free Trade and glorifying Third World Oligarch-Industrialists:

“Nessuna soluzione . . . nessun problema!„

I don't know what Hollywood so-called star and all other entertainment types, clowns, sports figures etc. aren't corporations and IMHO they do not own or get all the so-called big deal property or money tossed around in their name in the press to make average simple-minded people gloat over them. I worked in the business at one point. I did not ever see one that wasn't a "Mr or Mrs. so and so Corporation" there were always pages upon pages in corporate docs of lawyers, agents, PR firms etc. that got their cut out of each overblown deal.

It probably is! Personally, I would have loved to have been the trim carpenter on that library! Or even to install the floors! Doing work like that for the "rich" is often more lucrative and less hassle than the typical, pice conscious, over-your-shoulder homeowner, often in part because the "rich" also hires a designer to work out the design and plan. A lot of people were hired to do that job. If we could get the "rich" to do a lot more upgrades like that now, then we might not even need the latest "Jobs Act"

Kind of looks like a pile of mismatched things - then they painted. Like a pile of everything they could think of. The furniture put together looks homley. Seriously. I would not want furniture to be that uncomfortable. Marble on the floors. A tennis court right next to the circus entrance. Then there is the crappie pond right in front of Alexander the Greats war pavillion. I thought the victoria mixed with the colonial and english townhome on the left side of the house was snappy. Then they might have changed there minds and went Andrew Jackson on the front of the house sided by townhome. Then to the right of the house the went Italian El Duce. Where of course Alberto can come out and make his speech before they hang him because he can't make his house payment.

23   wbblair3   2011 Sep 14, 12:49am

I was thinking it was built in the late 19th or early 20th century until I saw the "new construction" in the ad you linked to. I guess extreme wealth means that you must have a GARISH home reminiscent of old monarchy which, truth be told, is what our modern the plutocracy actually is.

If I had that kind of money, I'd have a TASTEFUL home built in a Frank Lloyd Wright style, replicating his various modernistic styles in different wings.

Yeah, she inherited the General Properties fortune from her father. I like to keep it in mind when the Mustache begins pontificating about consumption, usually just after he returns from yet another flight to India to collect bromides from Oligarch-Industrialists ("Entrepreneurs") in the third world.

Bet that house would burn down in under an hour once a good blaze took hold!

26   Dan8267   2011 Sep 14, 8:09am

Kitchen? Damn, that walk-in closet is bigger than half of the apartments I used to rent.

Now compare that mansion to the apartment where we commoners are now expected to live as I posted in this old thread with the video of a lego-style apartment.

That explains everything about his opinions.

Are you referring to the Mittster's comments? Isn't it ironic that he owns a company that uses other people's money to bankrupt companies, put people out of work and force them into becoming the 47%?

I know of many people who are still unemployed after 3 years. it's horrible that our economy is doing so poorly - even though things are coming around, it's not fast enough.

I'd like to have health insurance equal to the plan Mitt's wife's horse has.
