This is because this subject has the most memes/myths associated with it these memes travel like a virus and are exploited by politicians. Edward Deming convinced everyone that bacon and eggs is for breakfast, politics has never been the same since, in other words there is a correlation between his influence and the country going down hill.

Every once in a while someone will have an epiphany. An example is John Stossel he used to be a consumer reporter like Ralph Nader, one day he said wait a minute business does't hurt people government does. He has been a Libertarian since.

There is an interesting talk by an Oxford graduate named Dan Dennett who describes this phenomenon as an ant being affected by a parasite called a fluke that induces suicide for the ant so that the fluke can get into a grazing animals stomach to reproduce. The same as a computer virus except it affects humans.

This lack of critical thinking is no coincidence in my opinion. The answer is the question, logic has to be taught like any other subject.

BTW you can't see dodgerfanjohn's link to the NY Times unless you register to get harassed via e-mail to subscribe and etc.

If you put the headline into news.google.com, you can see it for free from that link. Google has a special deal with nyt and wsj.

Who's "shrek"??
If you are going to call me by someone else's name, the
least you can do is identify him/her....

Once Dan gets to a particular breaking point, he seems to like to accuse other posters of being some other past poster with a different name. Wait for it... there is a decent probability he'll accuse us of being someone talking to himself.
