The more I see of this political shit show, the more I believe there's no such thing as Right wing or Left wing. The political spectrum is NOT a ruler with end caps. It's a fucking circle with Communism and Fascism meeting at Totalitarianism on one side, and Libertarianism on the opposite azimuth. Somewhere in between is what we have: a constitutional republic. Our system of government uses the democratic process to involve the will of the people, but has a core set of laws (the Constitution) which limit what laws may be made and enforced, thereby protecting the rule of law over democratic flights of fancy.
For instance: Congress may outlaw "misgendering" a person by referring to them with the wrong pronoun. However, such a law is a violation of the First Ammendment to the Constitution, and can't be enforced. So even if a majority of Leftists enacted the law, they would not be free to oppress the people with it.
Can I buy a weapon in a Red State without giving my family tree at time of purchase? Republican 2nd Amendment oppressive infringement. Republicans need one's info so they can confiscate Americans' weapons.
Dems obviously have sources in the Justice Department and elsewhere.
Another Trump Trap.
http://patrick.net/post/1309180/#comment-1436205 It always happens this way, but I'm shocked so few get it. How many times have we seen Trump encourage his enemies to lash out, only to distance themselves later from the comments they make? If this was a TV Show, I'd say "Knock off this same trope in every other episode already". The reason it's effective is because the Swamp is playing by the old Party System Rulebook in an increasingly different situation. You know, moral outrage, somebody apologizes, etc. but now that social media dominates and the Legacy Media doesn't have a lock on framing the narrative... when you can see what people said at the time and the Legacy MSM can't alter the picture later and depend on people not going to the Library to look it up on Microfiche...
You've got the Media in fear of losing their jobs and having an elite disdain that is core to their identity.
The Politicians are frickin' aged. How old is Pelosi? McConnell? They really arose in the Culture Wars and it's so automatic to their thinking, they can't grasp the shifting paradigm. So their responses are from another era.
I think it's game theory. Or "don't feed the trolls," in this case, it's don't feed the troll. Ignore him and watch him get even more weird, or possibly when he doesn't feel persecuted by all of his enemies, he'll be a better President.
Don't let him make the media and the moderates his enemy. Or maybe he'll impulisvely be so fricking insane that even his fans get it, as he tries crazier and crazier shit to trigger his supposed enemies.
Pissing off intelligent moderate folks is his strategy for entertaining and pleasing his fans. What happens when they react less ? Obviously the brightest and best columnists out there will always be commenting. But, what happens when he gets less reaction ?
I guess the dark side of that is that we actually become acclimated to having Donald Trump as President.
from San Francisco magazine: It’s the kind of thinking—pragmatic, reasonable—that infuriates Feinstein’s more liberal constituents, who don’t believe that this administration has any real interest in playing by conventional rules. But Feinstein rejects that stance. She tellingly describes a scene that has become a fixation for her. “There’s a house on Foxhall,” an avenue bisecting an exclusive neighborhood in D.C. “I go by it every day going home. And I look for this house. It’s a little house. It’s got an American flag. And across its porch, it’s got a big sign, hand-painted, saying, ‘Resist.’ OK. What actually does that mean? We have real problems in this government that we’ve got to solve. And people don’t understand that.”
Bbbbut muh Russia! Muh 25th Ammendment!
LMFAO!
