As you may have remembered, back in June 2017, I posted a thread where I was looking for a full size truck (to replace my Audi Q5 as my primary mode of transportation).

Looked at Toyota Tundras, Ford F150s, and Dodge 1500 Rebels. In the end, the truck that fit me the best was the GMC Sierra Denali.

GMC Sierra Denali Quick stats
- 420 hp @ 5600 rpm
- 460 lb-ft of torque @ 4100 rpm
- 4x4 Drive
- Onyx Black paint
- DENALI ULTIMATE PACKAGE
- 8.1 inch nav/entertainment screen

This truck kicks ass. Thanks Trump.

How much did it depreciate the moment you closed the deal.

What a waste of money. I have never understood why people want to drive these huge trucks for daily transportation.

If I had $70K to spend for a new car, I would go with a Honda Accord and donate the rest charity.

Everyone is entitled to a vice - Marybeth two. Like others I top out in the high 20s for a car but will gleefully drop $300 for an over the top meal/experience. Same goes with travel - will spend serious coin for a bucket list experience.

So I cut the guy a break if his thing is vehicles. While I think his spending is wasteful if he isn't into food/wine he thinks the same about my "wasteful" meal when he can get one for 7.99 at the Olive Garden. To each his own.

70K for a truck, no wonder GM stock is doing so well lately.

I'll be honest, I often do spend ridiculous amounts on meals when I do go out. Not like $300 every night, but I usually don't spend under $60 an entree, add wine, and tip and it goes up pretty fast.

Most of the time though I am eating at home just because I love cooking. Nothing like making a venison stew from a deer you harvested with your own rifle. It's awesome.

Exactly. I think anyone who didn't listen to Krugman obviously knows what they're doing as evidenced from the trillions of dollars of networth added to those people's portfolios over the past 12 months.

On and off. Got busy with buying the property in Alaska. Then remembered I wanted a truck. Doesn’t help that I’m very OCD.

What about an Audi S8?

605HP @ 6,100-6,800 rpm
517 lb-ft @ 1,750-6,000 rpm

Or even an S6?

listening to Krugman in the past year would be a mistake.

Listening to Peter Schiff for the past 5 years would be an ass reaming of epic proportion.

5 years? More like 10.
66   anonymous   2017 Oct 9, 4:32pm

You haven't. We knew you were allowing Schiff to repeatedly enter you in 2012, but we don't know when you cut him off.

So, when did you decide not to listen to Schiff?
67   anonymous   2017 Oct 9, 6:17pm

Goran said "guess how that turned out"

Quite spectacularly I'm sure as it does for everyone in the history of posting on the internet.

I'm still curious though- in 2012 you were here extolling the virtues of peter schiff. Sometime between 2012 and now you realized he was horrendously wrong and no longer worth listening to. So when did you come to this realization?
68   WatermelonUniversity   2017 Oct 9, 9:47pm

This was a housing bubble site, it’s heyday was 2005-2008. People who only became woke to the obvious truths in 2009-2012 missed the boat.
70   anonymous   2017 Oct 10, 8:33am

Goran - in post #110 you admit you were on team Schiff in 2012. You largely quit posting after that so there is no real record of your judgement 2012 - 2017.

So the question again is at what point did u realize Schiff was full of Schiff and quit listening to him? You can say fall 2012 or 3 days ago and we will never be able to substantiate your self reported claim.

Either way, you will then be "on the record" as to when you realized how awful his advice was - which will be helpful when you come back in 2022 fully gloating about how awesome your life is because you listened to X and not that "charlatan" Y

So when was your Schiff epiphany?

I'm not sure what you want from me. I've said over and over that I agree with SOME of what Schiff says and disagree with things he does say.

For instance, here are my strong "agrees" with Schiff (for the record so in 2022 you can troll me or envy me):

- Big government sucks for the economy. The founders envisioned a nation where there was just enough government to preserve liberty. That's it. Public health care is doomed to failure. Public anything is doomed to failure. Look at Social Security, the VA, MediCare, even USPS for why government sucks at pretty much everything.
- Gold/Silver should be a good percentage of anyone's core wealth as protection against inflation.
- Crypto-currency is more speculative than "here to stay" (I'll probably eat my words here but I would bet against big government letting a completely uncontrolled currency take over the economy).

Things I disagree with Schiff on:
- I don't agree that there will be some momentous economic crash based upon a currency crisis. The reason I disagree with Schiff on this point is because the U.S dollar is the reserve currency of the entire world. Until China or India or some other emergent power takes that throne, we will not have some sudden currency crisis land upon us. If anything it will be a slow, strangling death, not a samurai sword swipe at the neck like Schiff believes.
- I'm undecided on his stance on a national sales tax replacing personal and corporate taxes. I see the benefit of simplification but I don't know enough about the numbers to take a firm stance.

So there you go.

Pick a statement, and I'll confirm if I agree with it or not. Unlike you I don't blanket judge the entirety of someone as a person based off one statement they may have made 5 years ago. That's for people like you and the majority of the people who watch CNN.

Goran - the problem with your Schiff response is it's all milquetoast policy BS. For the last several years Schiff has been predicting substantial near term stock market crash. At what point 2012 - 2017 did you realize his stock market positions are completely wrong?

I never ever listened or posted about Schiff because of his "stock picks" or commentary on the Dow Jones. I have individuals in my life who I go to for that advice. I've only ever talked about Schiff with regards to his views on housing, national debt, the FED, and precious metals. Nothing more.

Maybe you should use your brain once in a while.

The rate of price increase peaked. I don't think anyone would ever say real prices peaked because that has never happened in the entire history of the shiller index.

Ok - so as to housing Schiff was still in doom mode regarding housing in 2012, 2013, etc. So if you listen to him on housing why did you buy in early 2013?

I best explained that in my "buying house" thread back in January 2013.

For some, waiting for house prices to decline to the old normal is simply going to be a long wait. Though we may be bitter about it, our federal monetary policy clearly involves inflating/devaluing our way out of debt and explicitly encouraging higher home prices. This may not be a normal healthy market, but it's the market we'll be living with for a very long time.

So basically I accepted that the government under Obama was going to do everything in its power to not let housing crash even if he added trillions to the debt. I'm just an ant on a huge ant hill, I either go with the flow, or I get crushed. So I decided to go with the flow, and made out like a bandit.

I was right about the debt btw.

Who am I to fight against that?
79   anonymous   2017 Oct 10, 11:39am

Ok Goran so I agree with you as to the "new normal" in 2013. So in other words you knew Schiff was full of Schiff as to housing prices in 2013.

So on housing prices you listened to Schiff 2000-2012 and in 2013 you realized he was full of it.

Nope. I think Schiff was totally right about the market, so was Michael Burry. I just accepted the reality of it all when I bought.

To use an analogy. Say you have two tables of Black Jack at a Casino. The first table is using traditional rules, 52 cards, standard values, etc. You might expect 90 cents for every dollar you bet on average.

Say at the next table, the dealer is allowing players to swap a card out for, let's call it an FHA card. So you can hold a King, or Ace in the pocket and swap it out anytime you want. Now you might expect $1.25 for every dollar bet, maybe more.

Which table are you going to put your money at?

So to say Schiff was full of "Schiff" isn't accurate. He just understands the rules on a non-fraudulent game. But the game is completely fraudulent. Would you call Michael Burry an idiot for realizing the game was completely rigged even though he profited hundreds of millions of dollars with his option calls?

I wouldn't. Neither would you.
81   anonymous   2017 Oct 10, 1:16pm

Goran - your blackjack analogy is perfect actually.

In 2013 after the fed telegraphed in every way possible that "the rules are now different", you saw this, I saw this, anyone withhalf a brain saw this.

As to why SChiff did not understand this speaks volumes to his judgment. Apparently you trusted his judgment from 2000-2012 but in 2013 you realized his judgment (as it corresponds to housing prices) is horrendously flawed.

It was flawed in that he didn't accept the reality of the "new normal". I didn't believe it myself, then suddenly I did. Patrick.net is a website dedicated to pointing out the REAL reality, maybe Patrick actually believes in the new normal now (I don't know). Michael Burry didn't believe it for a while either until his options were worth over a billion dollars.

Human beings are bad at believing that things are worse then they really are, it scares us, so we paint a story that is favorable to us and use that "reality" instead.

It’s pathetic. CiC is back harvesting personal information and digging into personal backgrounds.
