Fuck, that's what passes for "science" on the left now? Arstechnica is terrible.

Arstechnica: Blames white people for gun violence.
Arstechnica: Ignores that HALF of all violent crime in the United States is committed by BLACKS.

Its not crime if you are black, it is resistance against the man. And the man owes them restitution.

In addition to the demographics already mentioned, gun owners tended to report higher incomes than non-gun owners and the same levels of education, economic instability, and happiness.

Noted - but that was a distinction between owners versus non owners (which was surprising BTW). The part which was more interesting was among the universe of gun owners only, which ones embraced the gun culture versus those who did not.

How do you know they don't? They might be smart enough not to "self report" what they own.

Good surveys account for that. If you want to know about church attendance you don't ask "did you go to church this week". Instead, you ask "what did you do last sunday" and then see how many times the word church comes up.

Rich, urban types usually live in coastal Liberal, Blue towns and vote Dem. That should be obvious. They rely on protection from the police.

Ok then but why no embrace of gun culture among rich rural? I live in a reddish rural area. You will see people talk about the new Ceasar Guarini 28 gauge for the wife, but no one talks about getting a new AR 15. These people are extremely wealthy, but other than perhaps a scope, have no interest in fetishizing their 308 bolt action or getting the latest paramilitary gear to protect the house and home. Why not?

Gangs have to be fixed regardless of gun control measures, and I'm not sure that gun control would have much of an impact on gangs and gang violence.

We must use sanctions. Thats the ticket.

Only problem with this is dans post history overwhelmingly confirms he is gay. The Taylor swift references are nothing but chaff.

or perhaps they are virtue signaling like Dan who used to tell us how sophisticated he was because he could go to Georgie's as a hetero.

This project (and article) just quantifies what many had already known. In fact, it's a bit of a cliche thinking of a weak guy buying a gun to feel empowered. It is interesting that they have identified that the feeling of weakness tends to come from economic insecurity. That makes sense. anonymous says
In all, the authors conclude that white men use gun ownership to mitigate economic distress. In other words, “economic distress enhances the extent to which white men, specifically, come to rely on the semiotic power of a cultural symbol... [they] utilize guns as a foundational source of power and identity.”

From the little write-up, it's not clear that this conclusion is justified. They found a correlation between financial insecurity and feeling security from gun ownership, but they didn't say why they concluded it was cause and effect.

As every true scientist knows: “correlation does not equal causation!”

Anyone peddling the opposite of this statement is a charlatan, no matter what letters follow their name.

Moms Demand Action, a gun control group that attended Wednesday’s hearing, has also attacked the bill, arguing it “is a chaotic and dangerous policy that would gut every state’s gun laws and make our communities less safe.”

Of course then don't backup that bullshit with data or facts, just emotion.

would become effective in New York, a state that currently doesn’t recognize any other state’s conceal carry permits.

What's wrong with that picture? Why does NY think they are "special"?

Who comprise 10% of the population.

Thats absolutely gross.

I am now understanding why Democrats don't support sentencing felons carrying guns to Federal minimums(15 years). They don't want blacks spending even more time in prison.

You are not financially unstable if you own a monster truck that the repo man can't find.
