This is because we have massive bribery of our legislators. The health care industry simply pays them to make sure that prices will remain secret and arbitrarily high. It costs only a tiny bit of the excess profits to bribe Congress, which then makes it a point to never even discuss the issue, instead distracting people with tranny bathrooms and other divisive crap.
Check out the top bribers, er, donors to congressmen in 2018 so far. Five out of the top ten donors are in the pay-or-die health care extortion racket:
1 US Chamber of Commerce $23,095,000 2 National Assn of Realtors $13,085,136 3 Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America $10,073,750 4 American Medical Assn $6,770,000 5 Blue Cross/Blue Shield $6,191,346 6 American Hospital Assn $6,015,694 7 Business Roundtable $5,560,000 8 Alphabet Inc $5,100,000 9 Pfizer Inc $4,650,000 10 DowDupont $4,496,570
The solution is publicly funded elections, so congressmen don't need to take bribes to stay in office. At least it would be a start, even if the revolving door between congressional aides and industry lobbyists kept going.
