Denmark is not a socialist country.

Speaking at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, Danish PM Lars Løkke Rasmussen told students that he had “absolutely no wish to interfere the presidential debate in the US” but nonetheless attempted to set the record straight about his country.

"I know that some people in the US associate the Nordic model with some sort of socialism. Therefore I would like to make one thing clear. Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy,” Rasmussen said.

“The Nordic model is an expanded welfare state which provides a high level of security for its citizens, but it is also a successful market economy with much freedom to pursue your dreams and live your life as you wish,” he added.

The PM’s comments come after US presidential hopefuls Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton used part of the first Democratic debate to discuss how the United States could emulate Scandinavia.

Denmark repeatedly gets named the best place to do business in Europe, and one of the best in the World.

Rasmussen explicitly states in the Interview that Danish taxes are more than double what US Taxes are, and this is a trade off Danes have decided to make.

Always more, never enough. Reminds me of a friend who has lived in Germany since 1978 but visits his family in Ft. Worth every couple of years. He'll say oh all I have to do when I go into the hospital is show my card, I'm never out of pocket anything. A couple of weeks later he'll comment I wish you could see how much they take out of my check each month to pay for my health coverage. It's going to be paid for one way or another and in our country of 300 plus million it seems reasonable that more people should pull their own weight instead of leaving it in the public realm.
