Marcus - I think the reality is that private unions have been driving wages down all on their own as they sell out new workers to keep better benefits for existing workers doing the exact same work. There is nothing new here. The fact is that private unions no longer want to fight. When they do, they can get concessions (hotel workers in SF just settled for some decent increases, etc...). But, generally, the private union want to protect their existing employees and screw all the new folks, and keep their cushy high paid union management jobs.

now too many people look at their compensation with envy.

Keep telling yourself that, Marcus.

Fortwaynemobile listed all the stuff Tax Donkeys are faced with. "Civil" servants ought to think about how to keep the Tax Donkeys from getting out of Dodge, instead new ways (taxes on text messaging or whatever) to feast on their Golden Goose, lecturing the rest of us on how it's our problem that we're "jealous" of them.

I wonder. How many readers of this website, Patrick himself included, aspire that their kids stay in California?

I want my kids to live close to me. Southern Orange County, or Northern San Diego. No where else.
