And it was still argued about until February 2022. And the covid remedies and whatnot.

What else we gonna argue about? Anyone got a better topic? How about “is this a start if we 3”?

How about "why are only certain things counted in dozens? Why can't americans learn the metric system? Why do you have to distance yourself in TSA lines and then get packed like sardines in a plane? Would your average broke american willingly pay $1000 + in energy costs this year to help save the Ukraine? Why can't americans lose weight and get healthy? Or why don't they kick Russia out of NATO like Patricia Arquette said? Lots of subjects.

No, they want you to put it aside for now and later circle back.

I think this is right. And I think kids that I see waiting for the school bus, or walking down the street by themselves, with a mask on are indoctrinated for life and will be ready to receive instructions and comply with whatever ridiculous tyrannical restrictions they are given in the future.

I think that means you won the argument......as far as leg room, you don't have to kill, just pay for first class or at least business class. Luxury isn't cheap.

How about Why can't americans learn the metric system? .

Imagine telling someone who has used the metric system all their life that there is a new system (the american one) that is easier to use. they want you to explain so you start with temperature....water freezes at 32F and boils at 212F.....he says water freezes at 0C and boils at 100C...you say water weighs 33.38 oz per qt.....he says water weighs 1 kg per liter. You say a mile is 5,280 ft...he says a kilometer is 1000 meters...you say there are 43,560 sq ft in an acre....he says there are 10,000 square meter in an Hectare...you say there are 36 inches in a yard...he says there are 1000 mm in a meter...then you realize it has a symmetry and its easier, faster, and better,

No doubt but there are a few things where it comes in handy. Since an hour has 60 minutes everywhere and the speed limit on freeways is usually between 55 and 80 you can easily calculate your time to destination with 1 minute per mile.

he says water weighs 1 kg per liter.

Yeah, so? Water weighs 1 pound per pint.

By the way, all aircraft worldwide use feet for altitude, nautical miles for distance and knots for speed. Whether you are in the Americas, Asia, Europe, Australia, or Africa, if the air traffic controller says "climb and maintain flight level two-four-zero", he/she means for you to climb to 24,000 ft standard altitude (meaning altimeter set for 29.92 inches of mercury, standard day).

Why is a meter based on one millionth the distance from Paris to the North Pole? (Don't come back with "wavelengths of cesium," as that is just a way to reproduce the set length). Would have been smarter to be based distance on one minute of latitude, like a nautical mile. That is, have a meter be 1,000th of a nautical mile, with the kilometer and nautical mile the same. On Earth, a nautical mile has useful meaning.

Also notice metric system does not use 100 seconds to a minute, or 10 hours in a day. Nor is geo coordinates 100 degrees from equator to the north pole, and longitude is 360 degrees around the Earth. Nothing special about powers of ten.

komputodo says

And that matters how? Do we refer to temperature in "boilponts?" As in "temperature outside is 1/3 boilpoint" or "high today will be 2.3 freezepoints."

Date: 15 Ventôse CCXXX

And in the French Revolution, when metric was created, they didn't know about the wavelengths of cesium, they had just figured out that air was a compound but of what they didn't know. Humphrie Davys hadn't discovered the fun of Nitrous Oxide yet, Mendelev was decades into the future.

They also replaced the Calendar with different months: "Germinal" (Planting) and "Thermidor" (Warmth: Old July/August) that started from the 19th of the Current Month and went to 17th of another Current Month. "Thermidorian Revolution" is named after that "Revolutionary Month" We didn't adopt that either. And Leftists have been using months to mark their Revolutions since. "October Revolution".

And marked 1793 as the "Year Zero" because the New Utopian Oligarchical Dictatorship of Pure Reason Paradise was started by them in that year. We didn't adopt that either, needless to say. But Pol Pot used it to mark the Cambodian Communist Revolution; as French-educated, he was giving a nod to Robespierre. Which is why I tell folks the Left Madness began before Marx, he was just the most popular flavor of the Trend.

We don't call 2000 the "Year 207".

Long live human-centric organically-derived measurements like Feet, and pooh on metric. And if it is going to be rationalized, then make it based on the solar system. Which will be reasonable until we colonize another star system: "Why do we on Alpha Centuri have to use this Sol-centric system of measurement, damned primitive..."

If we want to do something productive, fix English like almost all other languages have been 200 years ago and standardize the Spelling. "All deeds/trusts/corporate/court filings will only be accepted in rationalized English spelling starting in 2030." And private enterprise will take care of the rest.

You can learn binary and power of 10 and hexadecimal system, good for your brain! Generally power of 10 systems are easier to use and convert but that's about it. But I also agree that it's less natural than using feet or stone etc.

Covid is over.
Unless you took the poisonous vax, you should be good now.
Things remaining to worry about:
1)WEF mission to subjugate the world and make us all slaves who “own nothing and are happy.”
2)Meddling political “elites” causing us to experience Nuclear annihilation
3)Nuclear winter replacing global warming.
4)Inflation
5)Recession
6)Brandon’s next nonsensical edict of Fascism
7)Newscum and his Democrat circus in Sacramento creating more horrible laws to torment us(for California residents).

Did so for a long time.12 Troy ounces to 1 troy pound of metal. Or 20 shillings to the pound, 12 pennies to the shilling.

Lasted 1007 years, from 1066 Norman Invasion to 1971 in the United Kingdom. 1000 years through the Largest Empire in History, no problem.

Stock Exchange was in fractions up to 1/16th of a dollar until 2000. Reason was Spanish Doubloons could be split into 1/8 and counted on the fingers not counting the thumbs. Then they made it 1/16 a few decades ago to make it more precise.

I wonder if returning to fractions of a dollar would fuck up the Qwant Trading.

Actually, some math pros say that we should use bas 12 instead of base 10. In the Anglo-Saxon days, one could count up to 12 on the finger sections using the thumb as a marker. Then on the other hand, count the numbers of dozens. When the other hand is full, you have a gross (means "big"). This is why we count up to twelve today without doing 10 as "one-ty," 11 as "one-teen." and 12 as "two-teen." Same with German.

Yep, the old "pieces of eight" from the pirate songs. Also, American silver dollars, as in "2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits, a dollar."
44   Onvacation   2022 Mar 5, 12:45pm

I've often wondered if math would be easier if we used base 12?

10 is divisible by 1,2,5 and 10. 12 is divisible by 1,2,3,4,6, and 12. If we had learned to count in duodecimal instead of decimal math might be easier.

Just like learning a second language instead of saying "english is good enough"...I don't need to learn another language...A bilingual person, speaking Spanish and English, is able to understand 1 from 3 people who connect to the Internet (Internet World Stats, 2019).
