Establishment republicans dislike them or at least speak out against them.

Trump was against them until he flipped and came out for them.

What did I win?

Surprised?

And all the obnoxious MAGA influencers and grifters (like Vivek) are all hypocritically changing tune and backing Tik Tok now.

Trump needs every donor he can get - which means he will sell out all his grass roots MAGA supporters.

Trump has been morphing into Schwarzenegger all year by tacking left on important cultural issues. I am afraid this is one of many "pivots" Trump is going to make if he is lucky enough to win in November.

Trump pointed out that banning TikTok will just drive traffic to Zuckfuck.

However, this bill doesn't ban it, it forces it's sale to US domestic ownership.

When did anyone give a shit about any of them? Most blacks are niggers, some are good, but BLM is paid for idiots (sorry, I get to say that word). I give zero fucks about Bud Light. None. Call it what it is a fucking stupid marketing gaffe. Frankly it was less worse than a Biden presser. TikTok... I'm a 40 year old white male. Who gives a shit about it? I did just check my wifi and it's blocked.

I like discussion here, but people are on their phone waaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I bark at my kids when we go out to eat to put the fucking things down. Even my wife which doesn't win me points, but we could have just made a meal at home then. She's coming around. Some of her phone stuff is work though, but with kids, put that shit down and have some engagement with adults.

I leave my phone in my pocket when we go out even if someone calls. Fuck 'em. I have the watch so if it's my mom, sister, MIL or SIL's call I get notified and I can take it because they never call me... because I'm an ass hole. So I have to assume someone is dead or something happened. Which has happened many times.

I don't know, the whole TikTok thing is lowest on the totem pole. We're already being censored and spied on. Sites like Patnet will continue to exist. I'd love to have less bull shit out there. I like decentralized content, even what's on YouTube. It fucks the legacy media over. I have 11 tvs with one still in the box (wife wins them at golf outings) and I don't watch them besides an older movie from at least 10 years ago and older.

Wasn't it exactly what he pushed for back when he was a POTUS? I remember Larry Ellison was lining up to buy it.

I still do. I did back then and still strongly oppose BLM. I still think Bud Light should rot. And I still think ChiCom should not be allowed to run social media in the US if only for the reason US companies are not allowed to run social media sites in Chyna.

Exactly,

Trump is either lying to us or totally misinformed. Neither is good.

Trump is not stupid, so I think he is just beholden to his few remaining donors.

This is the price we paid for nominating a candidate that is so weakened and vulnerable to the lawfare making him desperate for allies.

A real fix would make any social media liable for content. Time to fix "the internet is open and free" concept.

How would domestic ownership be any better with this administration? When there is real regime/politics change, they could still ban/force it.

The Internet would have to be regulated as a utility.
15   Patrick   2024 Mar 13, 4:03pm

@beershrine

So you're saying that social media sites should be liable for content their users post, right?

That liability makes sense to me if the content is seriously bad (like child porn) and the site refuses to take it down. And that's how it is now.

But I could not run this site if I were immediately liable for everything that anyone posts.

As for TikTok, I agree with Eric Holder that China should be able to run US social media sites until the US gets the same privilege in China.

With today's technology, everybody and their mother can broadcast quickly from anywhere to thousands if not millions. You can never regulate it and it would negate the benefits the open web has. One option could be to limit corporations (for profit or non profit doesn't matter, any organization as opposed to an individual) to certain types of businesses only, where there are no opinions besides the product sold advertised. Opinion broadcasting and "influencing" can only be done by individuals which are of course fully liable.

FWIW - my daughter in H.S. is hoping they ban Tik Tok. She knows how addictive it is and is constantly uninstalling it from her phone when she needs to concentrate on Finals or major school/work projects. But she always comes back like an addict....

They should ban Pokémon go as well then!

No.

Regulation just means it becomes government propaganda. YouTube is now worthless for information, because it's not a really open platform, so is Google. If I want information, I typically go to Rumble now, I use Yandex, a Russia site, as my main search engine although it can be obnoxious to use. The reality is, they are still usable, YouTube and Google are not.

Add fudgepackers to the list:

Former First Lady Melania Trump is set to make a rare campaign appearance during a fundraiser for the Log Cabin Republicans, according to Politico.

Log Cabin Republicans bills itself as the nation's largest organization representing LGBT conservatives and allies. Melania has largely remained out of the public eye when it comes to her husband, former President Donald Trump's presidential campaign. The former president had been teasing her return to the campaign trail.

WTF, why?

The Log Cabin Republicans look at drag queen story hour and transgender surgery for children in much the same way YOU do.
