I somewhat question the methodology used by Estately. Apparently they used self-identified data coming from Facebook to determine these rankings. Maybe it's that a greater proportion of nerds who live in less populated areas are likely to be on Facebook in the first place. Or maybe they're likely to be more enthusiastic about their nerd-dom on Facebook because there aren't enough nerds around with which to nerd-out IRL.
Great that they included Doctor Who. I didn't realize people still played Magic: The Gathering.
This data doesn't really fit with observation. As an example, there are LARP events in NorCal and SoCal all the time, according to my friends who LARP. There are probably many more opportunities for cosplay in California too, compared to Alaska, and not just Comic-Con. I'd imagine many more people get BBC America in California as compared to say Wyoming, for the Doctor Who part.

But bow ties are cool not nerdy?
This is clearly very biased data. Santa Cruz would have had it's own special status if they really worked on this. ;-)

They play several time a week at the Anime store in the Vineyard shopping center in Morgan Hill. Morgan Hill is pretty nerdy.
California was #39 in zombie apocalypse survivability. Not good.
The zombies don't think so.

NJ was #50. Call if Crazy needs to get his act together!
Oh no, I belong in Utah. ;-)
