"Rates of diabetes in U.S. children have jumped sharply in just eight years, according to new research.

The prevalence of type 1 diabetes increased 21 percent between 2001 and 2009. At the same time, rates of type 2 diabetes rose 30.5 percent, the study found.

I've posted already about the rise in prescription anti-psychotics, to children as young as three; some of those Rx drugs are known to cause diabetes. I have also posted already about the increasing number of children on four or more anti-psychotic drugs, in combinations that have never been tested. I would add this, on the proliferation of antibiotics, especially in dairy and meat:

"Data from mouse studies done in Blaser's lab suggest that short, intensive doses of antibiotics—like the kind children routinely get—can in fact cause weight gain. Let’s say you are the kind of highly educated parent who knows that colds are caused by viruses and therefore won't be helped by antibiotics, someone who will refuse the amoxycillin your pediatrician tries to prescribe to make you feel like you are doing something for your kid and to get you out of his office quicker. It’s still very difficult to limit your child's exposure to antibiotics because they are still in the meat the kids eat and the milk they drink. Antibiotics are even used on organic apples and pears to combat fire blight, a bacterial disease of fruit trees."

In 2008, a junior Senator campaigned on reforming America's sick-care system, which maximizes revenue by victimizing patients. Once elected, he expanded and entrenched that system, giving the federal government unprecedented power to make it mandatory (a provision that he had campaigned against, and even mocked when it was part of "Hillary's Plan").

Give it a week, it will be back down to the lowest level in centuries, when Obamacare needs some positive press.
They were just tooting their horn about how diabetes cases are down.

More diabetics surviving, more diabetics reproducing, more diabetics. Diabetic parent, more likely to have a diabetic child.

If your medical technology props up a genetic flaw, then the genetic flaw proliferates.

Some hospitals see as many as four generations of diabetics, all going in at the same time.

Not all diabetes is genetic, but even developmental diabetes points to a genetic tendency.

Diabetes runs so much in my family, that even one of my cats has it! Unlike humans, at least he has a chance of getting better (as in a cat's pancreas can restart).

Obligatory:

Zzyzzx, I'll save you the trouble......
It's all Obama's fault.

So why is diabetes getting worse in this country?
It has to be the food.

Mouse data frequently does not translate to the human animal.

Did you win at the track?

They spend all the money on Obamacare, nothing was left to spend on prevention.

Why prevent anything when taxpayers cover the bill for all the problems in the world.

I'm guessing that comment refers to this thread, but there isn't a contradiction between the two: we have a system that maximizes revenues by victimizing patients, and often that means creating problems and then managing them; so, we see more diabetes but also more treatment of diabetes, resulting in much more spending. Similarly, kids get enough diagnostic radiation to increase significantly their risk of leukemia, but survival rates for childhood leukemia have improved, so it doesn't usually kill them (until later when they become adults and the side effects catch up with them, by which time they're past the 5-year "saved" survival window). It's a simple program:
1) create problems;
2) exacerbate problems;
3) medicate problems;
4) return to step 1, remembering to bill for every step.

...and the resulting revenue increases.

Both major parties are running against evolution. Republicans deny evolution ever happened, and Democrats promise to reverse the process. Either way, our political ecosystem has created a form of reverse eugenics, like The Matrix: our political machines prey upon the people who created them.

It's the food AND lack of exercise. I mean you don't have to go very far back in time to see people doing a lot of things with manual labor that are done by machines, etc. Kids don't go outside and play much anymore, and when they do they are riding a dirt bike instead of doing something that actually requires them to move. It wasn't that long ago either when people mostly walked everywhere as a form of transportation and jobs required a lot of physical labor.
