Hi guys,

I'm looking over my portfolio this week (both 401K retirement and personal brokerage account) and looking ahead at what to invest in during 2016.

I see that the market correction that we had in late Jan - early Feb '16 is behind us and once again the Dow, Nasdaq, and the S&P500 are near historical high levels. As a result, I'm going to pull some of the money I have here and continue to watch the fed.

I see precious metals (gold, silver, platinum) have been surging since Feb but still significantly below their 1yr and 2yr highs. Depending on where you believe oil is going, some are arguing it's a bargain right now too but oil isn't likely to do much in the short term. Long term treasury bonds had a strong year. Healthcare & Financial sectors haven't performed too well in the past year but Utilities & Telecom sectors have brought modest returns.

I'm interested in getting into a discussion regarding patrick.net's hot picks are for 2016 and where are people are putting their money in terms of market investment today.

Now that Bay Area home prices have surpassed a level that's attractive to most investors, some of us are looking at other investment options.

#investing

By the way, had a question for you in another thread

Yes Conventional loans above 417K can do 10% down loans to $625,500, in fact my most popular loan this year is a loans between $417K-$625,000 non 20% down with no PMI attached

76   BayArea   2016 Aug 3, 4:32pm

Logan, what do I need to show to get a 10% down loan at $625K with no PMI and the current conventional 30yr interest rate?

Do you know of anything under 20% DP for over $625K loan in existance?

Yes there are 80% first 10% 2nd loans and the rest can be a 2nd lien heloc up to 1,100,000 million now if you're talking about over $625,500 that was my most popular loan in 2014 when that loan came out

And what sort of PMIs would we be talking with that and where can I find more info?

No PMI you're taking on a 2nd loan Heloc starting rate was 5.99% it's probably higher than that now with the Fed raised a .25%

Its what I a call a Rich man's loan because you really need to make money to be able to afford this.

Only primary resident loans only

MASI 58.50 print ... sold little here ... new all time high.. chart is pretty.. so pretty

on what?

84   BayArea   2016 Aug 4, 9:56am

Logan, does your family's Co directly offer loans, or do you work with a separate loan company?

If you guys are offering loans, and can do 10% down up to $625K at current conforming 30yr fixed rates with no PMI, I'd be interested in talking to you at some point... Not quite there yet however.

Throwing in ARRY, a biotech stock - high risk as with any but with real revenues from collaborations - into the mix. Currently priced at $3.50/share.

Now at $4.50/share, still a decent time to buy. Gonna be yuuugee.

I only have 5,300 shares that are part of the non long term invest able shares left to sell, so for example only 200 shares sold this morning, the rest are just small investments each month,

If this stock can hit $70 with the big move in UNXL this year and selling at $2,70 ish.. that will be 2 investment ideas over 100% returns as MASI got to mid 30's earlier this year

Logan,

We have had our own mortgage company since 1987, I just don't talk about in terms of promotion, I think that takes away from my economic discussions, just call me whenever you want.

You have $250K invested in MASI?

89   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:20am

mell says

You have $250K invested in MASI?

This is what I have left that I am willing to depart with

2,500 at $37,84

1,600 at $21.69

800 at $19.90

400 at $20.19

The under performing of the stocks in prior years gave good buying points, this year when it wen under $40 I picked out another investment point.

The problem going forward is that unless it really takes a dip, I might not have a investment point to buy back in.. the monthly addition is just long term investing thesis

90   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:23am

My 2016 selling points outside today 200, this has been a big selling year as you can imagine

07/14/2016 07/14/2016 200 MKT S $53.1160
06/08/2016 06/08/2016 200 MKT $52.1555

That's a lot of money to have in one stock. You're a high roller, enjoy the money til you have kids ;) I don't see the problem with the investment point. Sell 50%-75% and let the rest ride forever. Free roll.

92   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:27am

I have money because I have no kids, evil to say that I know, But hence why I have my condo as my primary resident for the rest of my life, 2 bedroom 2 bath for 2 people and 5 pets and my rental is a 1 bedroom condo roughly half the size

Think small... grind it out...

As you can imagine, MASI is a unknown, even though they won a $487 Million lawsuit case against Phillips recently, medical device company, people think I talk about the Surfing shop MASIMO

93   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:28am

I did F up my sell today though, I thought I had 58.50 limit order but that had expires sold at market right in the open at 56 .. oh well... stupid mistake on my part

94   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:34am

Question is now where can TWTR and GPRO go... ATEN has already had it's run on the year, not sure how much upside is left

I trade almost biotech only. But TWTR is toast unless they get acquired. No ways to generate money, censoring of free speech and a general PC approach (vs meritocracy) has taken its toll on this stock. I'd assume GRPO will get more and more competitors. But I don't trade these anyways.

96   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:44am

mell says

GRPO

I will sell some GPRO above 14 and then let the rest ride, I did that with TWTR already, Not much else out there

BIOTECH land, Gale and MNKD were old trades of mine, but long out them, that sector High Beta, but have a stop loss for sure or else ...

97   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:47am

The retirement $$$ are all in funds outside of MASI... 85% stocks and 10% Bonds 5% reits that is a different story all together, I could care less about the stock market or the economic cycle with that account, any recession pre age 60 is a gift from the Gods, but sometimes switch up international and domestic % and Bond/Reit %

I assume you got out of GALE in time before it got obliterated. GALE and CYTR both can't shake the notion that they're scams, but at this point CYTR at these lows seems a better (high-risk) play though both suck and need funding (GALE more-so). All 3 (incl. MNKD) are diluted pigs. Besides arry I like matn and meip as spec plays and atrs as turning-to-profitability play.

GALE

Gale I got out way before the run up , Got in at 1.70 in Jan 3 2013 but got out if at 2.87 so missed that entire huge run up and MNKD was a minor gain.. not really big positions for me

100   _   2016 Aug 4, 11:58am

KBH is at $15.57 today, but even though I talked about it here back when it was $10 didn't have room to invest in that

101   _   2016 Aug 4, 12:41pm

Summer ZZZ's index wise

Going to Mexico for 10 days tomorrow, hopefully this narrow range is done with

TWTR over $20, taking about 35% off the trade here

107   BayArea   2016 Aug 15, 10:29am

Welcome back Morgan. How was Mexico?

Some of us have been on the ARLP kick lately...

GPRO doing well too... I'm surprised the market his been surging so well AFTER reaching record highs recently.

Excellent, 4 seasons at Punta Mita and Mexico city .. great musuems in Mexico city

Lots of Cranes in Mexico City

MASI hit 59.10 :-) looking to dump another 200 shares soon

If MASI can hit 70 by the end of the year that was 2 doubles in 2016 with UNXL, HP is up big, GPRO .... I already took half off ... see how Q4 Holiday sales push can bring to the stock

ATEN from 5 bucks is starting to pick up some steam but not sure I would invest new money into that

If twitter can get to high 20's that another near double as well

109   BayArea   2016 Aug 15, 1:28pm

very cool, but you forgot to tell us about all the positions that you lost your shirt on in 2016 ;-)

It's funny how people never mention those...

4 Stop losses for losses this year of note

DB

VRX

NFLX

TGT

I admit I am MASI heavy... but the stock only took off in 2015

111   _   2016 Aug 15, 1:38pm

I had TOL stop loss too but it was very tight, I tried to get Strat to follow it if I remember right
