http://solidtechnews.com/why-is-san-francisco-trying-to-strangle-its-golden-goose/

"Detroit doesn’t put burdensome restrictions on auto makers Idaho doesn’t put undue limitations and hurdles in front of potato farmers and California normally takes techniques to guard its farmers — for the reason that these industries are part of the lifeblood and identity of their respective states....

And then there is San Francisco. The town appears hell-bent on hurting the innovation market that has built the it the tech funds of the earth. The tech market generates hundreds of large-shelling out work opportunities and hundreds of thousands in tax profits and has helped change San Francisco into one particular of the most sought-after locales in the region.

When businesses this sort of as Twitter, Airbnb, Zynga and other people emerge in San Francisco, they perpetuate an innovation lifetime cycle as they act as incubators for the upcoming technology of business owners that will proceed the financial growth.

Despite all that, San Francisco appears intent on killing the golden goose. Alternatively of celebrating the progress of tech businesses that incorporate hundreds of thousands on hundreds of thousands to the tax coffers, San Francisco demonizes their accomplishment.

San Francisco may before long see its tech-title taken away...

Hopefully, San Francisco legislators will know the wonderful reward that arrived in their town — hundreds of gifted, determined, really educated and modern individuals. And fairly than on the lookout this reward-horse in the mouth (sic) and passing laws that would make housing significantly less inexpensive and provides extra traffic to clogged streets and pollution to the air, the town will embrace the tech innovations, and innovators, that have built it the envy of the earth."

It didn't pass, the supervisors killed the measure, see here: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/02/san-francisco-tech-tax-rejected

Wow. As if San Francisco wasn't one of the most sought after places prior to the techie invasion. Just to let techies know, San Francisco existed BEFORE Silicon Valley. Yup, before Google, before Facebook, before Airbnb. It was a lovely city, full of diversity, openness and culture. There were poor people, rich people, and lots in the middle. It's turning into an uninteresting monochromatic playground for the elite 1% and no one else.

The problem was that SF residents were throwing a hissy fit and crying for bailouts in 2008 because their homes got devalued closer to their inherent value, and their businesses made less money without the amorphous hipster-tech mass. They got what they called for, inflated house values, booming businesses and a new wave of socially awkward hipster tech globs and elite residents throwing their cash around, and teachers and other middle-class people have been chased away as they cannot afford anymore to live here. Can't have it both ways. Though working in tech, I preferred the serenity and far less congested city after the bust. The SF natives brought this onto themselves. Next time no bailouts and cheap money.

I don't believe the natives brought this on. I believe Ed Lee and the more centrist politicians brought this on. They've done nothing but pander to tech millionaires.

"“You could make a change,” Equipto says. “You have no heart, man. The people that built this city, you’re getting them all kicked out of here, man. That’s some cold shit. You’re a part of it, and I know you are. I know you’re linked to mobsters and things like that. You need to have some heart. You’re a disgrace to Asians, man. We can make a change. You’re kicking people out. You’re kicking the people that built this city out of here.” "
