When I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, I ate at a fun old Polish restaurant called Staropolska on Milwaukee Ave. It was with Polish relatives of mine, so I paid.Patrick says
Then today, the exact same thing happened at Xahn, a Vietnamese restaurant in Mountain View! We were a group of 7, including wife's relatives. I go to pay
Tip is supposed to be on the pre-tax amount but many restaurants calculate it on the total bill, with tax included.
But first, let’s kill all bankers.
"Suggested Tip"
Never once did I think the service was adequate at those places
Maybe it's just a feature of being a republican that right wingers are often incapable of looking at both sides of a situation.
and are likely to under tip, becasue all too often everyone is pitching in, and they aren't pitching in enough.
The motherfucking motherfucker brought two bills allright, but both were for the full price of the meal and 20% "big group" tip included
Are we talking all places that can accommodate huge parties ?
It's not as easy as you'd think it is
work a day in a servers shoes at a busy restaurant. I'd bet most here couldn't handle it
Servers can't have it both ways
In Tokyo they do it right I think; you eat, stand up, walk to the front and someone sitting there says "2000 yen" . The tip is included and no waiting.
Then later I read the receipt. They had already added in a mandatory 18% tip because we were a party of 8. Bastards. I disputed the extra tip with my credit card and they seem likely to refund that amount.
Then today, the exact same thing happened at Xahn, a Vietnamese restaurant in Mountain View! We were a group of 7, including wife's relatives. I go to pay, and notice the same kind of bill. I flip to the next receipt which has everything itemized. Lo and behold, Xahn was pulling the exact same scam! They had already added in a mandatory 18% tip, and then show a summarized receipt where they suggest a 20% tip.
Instead of the ridiculous extra tip, I wrote SCAM. The waitress saw it and said, "Oh, we don't get any of the 18%". Bullshit.
Morals of the story:
1. Do not eat at Staropolska in Chicago.
2. Do not eat at Xahn in Mountain View.
3. Read restaurant receipts carefully before tipping.
