This country has enough coal to power the USA for 3000 years at current rates. And we can burn it cleanly. But, no, let's engage in wildly more expensive and unreliable sources of energy, like wind and solar. It's always been about cheap energy. China and India are, and will be, for the next couple or decades or more, the world's top polluters. And they don't seem to be moving very quickly to change their habits.

Think about it: Trump is actually doing MORE to curb global warming by shutting down trade with China than any other possible policy. If production moves to the USA, with cleaner pollution rules, global pollution WILL be reduced. The other countries simply won't do what is right to cut pollution. USA has cut emissions by 30% in ten years. Name any other top-50 economy that can claim this.

We can also shift production by investing in western hemisphere economies south of the border. Mandate clean production before investment. This will also stem the tide of refugees/immigrants from the south. It's truly a win-win.

I'm willing to pay more for my goods if they are made here. Case closed.

We should shift some companies to Guam with it being our territory and all. Right?

1) Let’s shut down China.

2) I'm willing to pay more for my goods if they are made here. Case closed.

I’m all for both of these points. In fact, I’ve been boycotting Chinese products for years. If I see it made in China, I don’t buy it.

The real Green alternative! If we corner the beef market, we can shut down Brazil. We've already deforested.

But then there's also reality. You wouldn't want to let that interfere with your theories.

Per wiki it's mostly from hydro. Good for them. We could dam the shit out of all the rivers and make huge amounts of power tomorrow. What do you think would prevent that???

They do it by necessity. They ecosystem in China is already trashed and hydro is an easy way to generate power. Good luck getting approval for any new dams here. I've seen videos of dams being taken down that were producing electricity. Can't blame Republicans on this front. Republicans like dams. They like boating and drinking beer on the lake.

But it's not the reality that matters, it's all about image and feelings. Mother nature looks down on us and takes that into consideration.

If marcus could convince all the PRO-TRUMP PATNET users to vote for the dem pres. candidate, would those votes be enough to swing the election? lol

Their growth rate on solar and wind is insane.

During a 10 year period when their economy basically tripled in size, the percentage of their energy that they got from renewable went from 17% to 26%.

To hear you tell it, they don't care about pollution. I think the it's quite the opposite, who understands their pollution problem better than they do ? Everyone knows that in the long run we're getting away from fossil fuels.

Yes. including here. But that is not the point. Is it less polluting to build products here, or to have products built with current Chinese pollution practices and the additional pollution of shipping across the Pacific?

Also, good in China are built by people nominally under government control, working for industries in China all of which are also 51% government owned. There is no such thing as "private industry" in China. All foreign investment is 51% government owned.
There is no way Chinese citizens can escape or hide from the socialist government of China. Why should we play their game of nominally enslaving 1.2 billion people?

Hey, if you trust the data China puts out, great. Call me a skeptic though.

I have zero issues with renewables. I want more of them. But you're making a claim, that on its face sounds like China is some bastion of clean energy based on likely false data they're putting out. I guess let's say you fell in a puddle of mud. Just because you wash your foot (and we're assuming you actually washed it) that the rest of the body is clean.

China is washing the foot and the only reason is to create jobs in their economy that are likely costing them money and putting more CO2 into the air. So a week later the foot is dirty again. But hey, China.

WTF is with the China support going on lately on Patnet? Do people dislike Trump that much that they'd side and give credit to a lying and cheating, adversarial country over a trade discussion?
