Until you get that net worth up to a respectable level, always have a term policy out on your spouse. Especially in the days of two income families. And don't ever get the permanent insurance or whatever they call it where they invest for you. Get cheap term policies young and bail on them when you're 55 or so and kids are gone and you should have built up enough retirement money for an emergency.

We I have a 20yr term life just to pay for house and money to take care of kids until 18.

Likewise. Minimal cost, but enough coverage to get through a death of a spouse and take care of the kids. If you bought young enough, term policies are dirty cheap for big policies. This is shit that no one teaches kids anymore. I'd have gotten a 30 year policy at 18-20 in hindsight. Probably could have gotten $500k at $15-$20/mo.

Everyone should get 20 year term policies on both Husband and Wife when the 1st kid is born. This is not pushed by "advisers" because straight term is cheap and pays low commissions.
